Hey guys, about 6 months ago I bought an older chevy silverado from a buddy of mine. Great looking truck. Any way, about 3 months after I bought it I change the oil in it, pretty much the only thing I know how to do, and there was some greenish stuff in the oil so i suspected antifreeze. Give the buddy a call, says he will come over and take a look. Says yep, antifreeze and will take it to his auto shop and look at it... Gives me a call the next day and says the head gasket was shot, he already fixed it, feels bad and its ready to pick up. Go to pick it up, ask how much and he told me free of charge since I just bought it. AWESOME! I say thanks and drive away. Well today, changing the oil again and same thing.....Give him a call and he comes right over to look at it, he tinkered around some and says well now its the flux capo sum thing sum thing.....grrrr great......I ask him how much is that, he said $1500 but he is really busy and it might be a few weeks before he can get it in his shop. So alright, I will just take it to the dealer. He says alright but that will probably be atleast double since he is charging parts only. Ask him if I can drive it anyway since I kinda depend on the truck but he says only if I really need to but he wouldnt recommend it. GRRRRR.....so what would you guys do? Just buy a beater, wait and drive it, or go to a dealer to get it fixed quick.....Just needing to vent a bit. *trucewhiteflag*

Sounds like he didn't get the intake gaskets on right, should have been done right the first time. Sounds like your buddy is taking you for a ride.

Lennie,
OK, you begged me for three years to buy my Silverado and I finally gave in and sold it to you. I don't know what you did to blow it up, but I fixed it and didn't even charge you for the beer I drank while doing the job. In fact, I continued to drink after I fixed it for you because I'm still upset.
Now, you come back with the same ole crap and I blew you off and you're too ***** to even recognize it. Now, you and you're ***** friends here can crow all you want, but **** off man. And don't ever come around my place again. I'm sure you know why I say that, but I will spare you the embarrasement and not spill the beans here.
That is you, isn't it Lennie?
Wow, is this really a situation between you two?

If so, goblingreen should have started paddling faster when he heard the sound of banjos in the distance.
..if it is true, once again the old tried&tested saying:
"Do not sell auto's to your family or friends"
reveals it's ugly head again..

Don't take the canoe into them waters. Don't see how you could have possibly arived at that conclusion.
My conjecture, however, was based on your post.

From your source.
I have little sympathy for Baltimore, however, after that ******nozzle Art Modell gave the city of Cleveland the dropped soap in the shower treatment.
The very notion that the Colts got to the AFC championchip game by beating the Baltimore Ravens is a football abortion of almost biblical proportions.

On a more serious note it should be pretty obvious if the head was ever removed... also I would never change just one. Do both head gaskets and be done with it.
It is also a good idea to take the heads to a machine shop and have them clean them up and look for crack's. If I head is cracked coolant could get into the oil. Same with a cracked block on a lot of engines but that is harder to do then to crack a head or blow a head gasket.
If I was you I would find a mechanic on Craigslist or something looking for work and have him give you an opinion for a few bucks.
Like I said, it should be pretty obvious if the head was ever removed......

Dude...
First off you bought this truck how long ago?
Seriously, you never even mentioned how many miles were on it or how much you paid for it,
either way you really can not expect any used vehicle to carry any sort of real or implied warranty,
6 months is a long time and most anything could have happened.
You just don't know, I've spent well over a thousand EVERY year since I've had my truck, just today I got to
spend $170 because long story short brakes went bad, this is all DIY so thank GOODNESS I caught it before
inspection or it would have REALLY cost me.
So yeah the guy's kind of upset that long down the road you coming up acting like maybe it's his fault,
granted he may not have done the best job fixing it the first time but he didn't even charge you for it.
Go get some prices on a cylinder head job someday, I can almost guarantee you're looking at $600+!
But now after some heated words exchanged your beer pal is finally saying come on, that probably
means he settled down on some prior anger which I would've been kind of steamed there as well, I think.
Now I can't tell you what to do but if it were my situation I'd probably take him up on that offer.
Go get your truck fixed, slip the man at least a $100 this time, too.

Hoestly man you should have checked that before you bought it (should have showed up on the dip stick). Id say if you have had it 6 months and was not untill 3 months ago that you noticed something that it is on you........ Same day or a few day's later then yeah you would of had a grip but it is up to the seller if he want's to do something about it if the sale is final/no warrenty.

Ah, the voice of reason. Bring 'er over and I'll take a look at it. We'll grill huge pices of meat. Then, we'll head over to the ballfield and get in a light workout. I think I can throw a spitter that very, very hard to detect. I'd like your take on it. You still OK with cheap beer?
