What is the one tool, not counting mowers, trimers blowers etc., that you just have to have.
For me it is my Leatherman and my cell phone. Leatherman because if it can't be fixed with a Leatherman it can't be fixed and my cell phone because I can do all my business on the road so I can spend more time with the family when I get home.

Well, it isn't a tool, but I can't leave the house without my thermos of coffee :)

I agree w/ the Leatherman and phone. The leatherman does it all, just about. Phone to call when the leatherman doesn't work.

Promo -- ROTFL

That was FUNNY! I can just see it! Did it stripe well?

We take our cell phone -- and our mowing log (mileage logs, quote sheets, business cards, notepaper, cards of other types of businesses to give to customers as references, invoices, etc.).

I want to start taking our digital camera. There are times when we're out there that I wish I had it. Kind of worry about theft though.

How could I forget!???!!! WATER!!!

Always the leatherman. And the dang cell phone. Some days I just shut it off so I can work. I will check messages at a later date. I have had a cell for about 7 years. Some times it gets to be a pain.

Speaking of leathermans, a guy just gave me a couple of them for doing good work. It has his company name on it so I assume they were free, but they're really nice. I keep one on my belt and the other one in the tackle box for fishing. They work great! Wouldn't leave home without it. Great tool.

My brother got me a Leatherman for Christmas and it's one of the best tools I have, I use it for almost anything, and it always stays in the glovebox when it's not on me.

My Trailer....seriously

Ive gone out a time or two to do shrub trimming or general landscape maintenance, and thought I would throw what I needed in the truck. Every time I do that, there is something I need on the trailer at home. Now I never leave home to do a job without the trailer, no matter how small the job is. I cant trust myself to get there with everything I need.

FIX-A-FLAT (Slime).

I tried to travel light the other day and sure enough I got a front flat on my ZTR. I had to hide the ZTR in the bushes, unhook the trailer and speed to Wal-Mart for some fix-a-flat.

Total wasted time 25 minutes.

Well, before you leave the house... better have a checklist! (especially mondays!)

Seems as if something makes it's way out of the trailor before mowing day that is essential to cover the accounts

Otherwise.... lots of water! It sure does help to have some when the sun starts rising and becoming intolerable.

bailing wire and some pliers, (leatherman, or slip joint) those two things will fix anything. i know a guy whos truck was held together with bailing wire. if you took it all off half his body would fall off, the exhaust would hit the ground, and u could pull the seat out of the cab. i'm not lying it would actually do that. a piece on the exhaust broke and the muffler hit the ground.

oh and some channel locks. if u cant get it taken apart with those then it wont come apart.

Creature of habit:
Clean shave, Belt for pants, hanky, wrist watch, 5 day weather report and sharp blades. Lack of the above items will only snow ball into a day with out a lot of groove. Always champion through some how!

Try the belt bit! My dad and grandfather used to always say: "You can not work hard with out wearing a belt." If you are not comfortable, you can not accomplish any task with style.
How does the saying go: Never leave home with out it

why does everyone have nextel phones?

1) They're the best

2) Two Way Radios built in. Handy as heck for communicating with your crews - doesn't count against your cell minutes.

3) They're the best

4) NO DEAD SPOTS. That means, never a dropped call. No matter what hill I go onto, how far out in the country, whatever, as long as I am within the coverage area, I will have a strong signal - ALWAYS. No other cell phone company can match that.

5) by-the-second billing. With most companies, if you are on the phone for 15 seconds, you get charged for 1 minute. With Nextel you get charged for 15 seconds. Makes a BIG difference when you add up hundreds or thousands of calls each month.

6) Did I mention They're the best?

Jimlewis Nextel may do that in your area, but they don't do jack here. Only a small amount of coverage right around town, and then south. Nothing to the east north or west of cheyenne. So needless to say, even tho I wish I could have one in a bad way, I don't have one.

So I would have to disagree that they are the best. I have been told the the coverage is spotty even right in town.

JimLewis
06-22-2002, 01:35 AM
Well, I agree. If you are in an area that isn't inside of their coverage circle you are SOL. Fortunately, where I live, all of the areas I ever go to are covered, even in neighboring states. So I always have full coverage except when I go to the coast. No coverage there yet but I don't care. I go to the coast to relax and get away so if my phone doesn't work for a weekend, all the better.

But I was comparing their coverage INSIDE their coverage area to other companies inside their "suposed" coverage area. With every other cell phone I've ever owned (ATT, Sprint, Verizon, Qwest, and Voicestream) there were ALWAYS tons of dead spots. Especially when I'd go up in the hills where the rich houses (and most of our customers) are. They'd always blank out up there. But with Nextel, as long as you are within the area, you are golden. It will never fail or get a weak signal. I just love that.
