I would just like to know if you had a bad run on scalp wheel bolts late 07 or so.
I ask because I have broken 3 bolts in the last 4 weeks, one went under the deck today.
Thats 2 wheels that have been smashed (luckily an outside wheel was missed), blades dented from the bolts, time spent getting replacements etc etc.

My old 04 SZ never broke a bolt. I bent one hitting a log but it didnt break.

Has something changed like the supplier?

I am not aware of a bad run of bolts.
I am not sure about a supplier change on bolts.

I think that the XR7 decks are too heavy for the factory bolts. I had a lot of problems with mine breaking especially the front left. One day I went to the store and replaced them all with grade 8 bolts and have not broke one since.

I went through 3 bolts last season. The Big Dog mower addresses the issue by having metal on both sides, wish Hustler would follow suite.

Ive already replaced the 2 front corners with grade 8. Yesterdays bolt/wheel was one of the centre's.

Thing is, I shouldnt have to replace these. They should be capable of what there for, supporting the deck over undulations etc!
These are very basic, very little cost things that would make owning a "commercial" mower, the reason why I bought a commercial mower!

I remember someone on here complaining about these bolts. I just shrugged him off thinking he was just a whinger.
Well to whom ever that was, I apologise and stand corrected!

Yes, that would be another simple, obvious way to fix the problem!

I agree with you in thinking they should hold up better. I did start a post here complaining about these, and most said to use grade 8 bolts. While this has helped me, I really feel that Hustler needs to redesign these anti-scalp setups. I truly feel that if they have a deck that is built this heavy, then the anti-scalp wheels need to have the bolts supported on both sides.
