I am trying to figure out if you need a license of cert. to apply fertilizer to customers yards. I don't think you do for just fertilizer but what about weed killers and pre-e's? I see many companies that are lawn care companies advertising this kind of service. Do they have a permit or certification? Thoughts?

Check with your states chemist office. Here in Indiana you do, which im sure is similiar to you. However the laws on this stuff aren't exact in every state. if you are applying any kind of chemical/fertilizer,pesticide, etc. to a lawn and landscape to make money. You have to be certified.

Certification comes first through education and developing and understanding of the processes, products, and methods of the craft. After completion of certain tests on knowledge of basic core material and safety and advanced subjects, then you can be awarded with a license. Some states will require being in the business for XX number of years or have had worked for a licensed individual before. Look up the National Plant Board or you local extension services to get the name and information to your licensing bureau.
All the best of luck!
