View Full Version : Duct tape in lawn care industry?

Thought to share a tip on why I always carry duct tape in lawn maintenance truck.

Patches split or torn bags of fertilzer till ready for use.

Reseals partial used fertilizer bags that will not be used for some time. Pesticides also.

Reseal peat moss bales.

Secure trimmer line from coming undone on preloaded trimmer head spool until it is needed for on the job quick change. Just a little thin piece of duct tape for securing the two ends of line together to prevent accidental unwrathering.

Some people use duct tape to secure blower extention tubes that blow off all the time.

What other lawn maintenance uses for duct tape?

200mph tape has so many uses I dont think we could possibly list them all.

Hmmmm Duck tape + 1/2" tree branch = fixed handles on mowers...

A good wrap of the duck tape will temporarily fix a blown coolant hose on a truck...

the 6" long piece on the handle is good for latching the safety down, after you find a wasp/yellow jacket/hornets nest in the ground, and decide to leave the mower running over the nest for a few minutes. At least then you're not facing a swarm when you want to finish the yard.

Twisted it to use as string to 'tie' a throttle open (after throttle cable broke)

Patched an innertube with it once (kept air in the tire well enough to get through the day with a few gas station stops)

Fixed that nasty hole in the trucks seat (no more spring in the a$$)

Taped up cracked/broken windows until the glass could be repaired.

Fixed more than one pair of boots with it :D

After a day of straight trimming (hacking down some NASTY brush with too much hidden stuff to risk taking a mower in there) A duck tape 'glove' was formed across a helpers blistering hands... Allowing him to finish the day.

I've used duck tape AND Superglue to close bad cuts (Superglue was originally made as a liquid bandaid back in the korean/vietnam wars era) Both work good on BAD wounds, ones that will require stitching (But you have to get to the hospital without bleeding to death first)

Only Dow superglue, the others burn like hell.

Ex-Pro Bowler tip.

I use electrical tape instead of duct tape.

All sorts of emergency repairs
Keeps the doors on the truck
If you loose the bolt for your blades just wrap er up real good.
Yep, I carry a roll, but I think I'd be too embarrassed to tell the stories, I hope nobody saw me.

My entire upper tube on the TRAC-VAC is duct tape now. The original was too flimsy and I was constantly being bombarded with c-r-a-p flying out of the holes. Wrapped it from top to bottom with black tape and keep a spare roll with me for any other emergencies.

Never used it as a glove though!

Why is the word c-r-a-p being sensored? Better than saying ****!

I USE BLACK DUCK TAPE....

It's an image thing. Sort of like vinly siding on a mobile home!

Seriously, black duck tape is not noticeable from over a few feet away.

I love duct tape. My wife works for a company that makes it. I think we have all the colors that it comes in.

I never tried this but I hear if you make a duct tape thong you don't have to go to the bathroom all day, saving countless restroom breaks. Of course you have to be careful at the end of the day when you get home and have to remove it.

Used duct tape this morning to repair torn Rain Coat & Rain pants.
Lasted almost all day in rain. Taped it from the inside so that the gray tape would not be visible. Cheap brand of duct tape. I was pleased with the repair.

Once I had duct taped a Mesh tarp over a mulch load.

I used it to tape together a leaf spring on my fathers ford ranger. The spring had the bottom piece broken and was rattling. Fixed it until it was replaced.

Did you know that 55% of all duct tape sold in the free world is used by owners of Ford vehicles? I wonder why? LOL

tape wires back to the handles of mowers, tape up the grips, tape around the leaf sucker so the leaves stay in, tape a mouth shut, and etc...

I'm pretty sure my ford feels better knowing there is a roll of duct tape in the tool box.

I once saw Jeff Gordon making laps under a car body made up of at least 50% black duct tape. (I wish I could get me some of them 4' X 4' sheets)

Duct tape can be used to hold Lesco spreader lever from opening while being transported in truck between jobs.

OK boys, as you know my wife does the mowing, I do the maintenance, it is the standard joke around the hose that with a bit of string, duct tape and sticks, my wife can keep anything running!

MANY times (the hazards of non commercial equipment) our original Dixon with Z drive transmission came home with tension rods duct taped with any assortment of stuff to hang them together to finish the day.

And my personal favorite, they are backing the same dixon up and wipe off the plug, break it clean in two right at the ceramic! I know folks won't believe this but I kid you not a bit, stuck the two pieces together, and duct taped over the top of the cap holding the top onto the bottom. Came home and told me to change it! One month or so later, I walk by and notice duct tape all over the back of the engine, ask the wife what that is and she says "don't you remember, you were supposed to change the plug" And do it now, cause it is a pain changing that stuff every week!

Duct tape fixes it all!
