noticed the surge line on trailer going into backing plate on the Dexter axle (3500) but also noticed 2 wires coming out of a hole in end of axle..(but cut off) looks factory?..does these have hydrollic AND Ellectric brakes? if so how can that be..use one or other?

is there a acuator on the tongue for hydro brakes

It doesn't now..but must have at one time- the line going to front axle is still there. goes to the backing plates. It had to be surge as they have oily fittings like might have had brake fluid at one time. Tounge had been modified and as mentioned in other post..(Pinto set-up) bracket is welded in solid now.

if it has the hole in the Axel with wire's it was probably elec. originally and some body just converted it to surge brake's ,either at the manufacturer due to expediency to get one shipped out ,or when the hauler needed the surge brake's for a multiple truck use and not all had a brake control .

Most of the axles are made with the wires for elect. brakes. If you have hyd. brakes they are not used.
Reading your other post, you don't have brakes on the trailer. Its something you will need to pass DOT.

Thanks on responses..I definately want brakes so I'm going to get electric backing plates and all that is needed..or get the surge stuff..But most likely go electric as I already have controller and plug wired for them from previous trailer.
