Do most of you buy your filters and oil at the dealer? I bought some filters from my cat dealer today and they were actually cheaper than carquest. Is cat or oem oil better than rotella or mobil?

I buy all my filters at the dealer, but the oil i usually get 55 gallon drum of 15-40 rotella for my machines and my trucks.

Myself I wouldn't buy engine oil in 45 gallon drums unless your using it up in one shot. With 45 gallon drums is too much chance of contamination. Any of the contractors I worked for bought 5 gallon pails. They bought oil when they needed it.

Stay away from the cheap filters, Fram is the worst Fleetgaurd or Luberfiner or Racor is some of the best ones.

Any of the mechanics I have worked for said buy it in 5 gallon pails. You end up with condensation in your oil if your using drums of oil.

When the gravel mines get the 250 gallon lube cubes they leave the last 30 gallons or so in the cube because it has water contamination.

I ran lube truck for years and never found any condensation issues with oil in drums or cubes. Now, as for leaving oil in the cubes, were they breaking the seals and opening the lid on top to pump it out? Makes no sense.

Last time I checked, oil can't evaporate at ambient temperatures. How is the container it's in going to condensate? Oh yeah, it's not.

Drums sweat on the inside if you leave them half full and if its sitting outside or a un heated shed you are going to get moisture build up. The drum would have to be stored in a heated building were the temperature stays the same.

I have worked with many mechanics and 99% of them will not use oil from drums. It is all 5 gallon pails even the bulk fuel supplier rarely sells drums of oil and they supply most of the contractors and forestry companies.

A pail is nicer to use aswell its clean you know soon as you open the lid and pour it into the engine its clean engine oil.

The 5w-40 Delo 400 I use in my 6.0 is $133.00 for a 18.9 litre (5 gallon) pail a pail of regular 15w-40 is 75.00 if you wanted gallon jugs it is a extra 5-10 dollars.

I buy Shell Rotella 5w40 synthetic at Wal-Mart for $19.50 per gallon....in gallon jugs. That's substantially less than what your paying for Chevron...

We don't have any Wally Worlds around here so I have to buy oil from a bulk fuel supplier.

I really like the Delo oil and I'am a Synthetic convert it makes the 6.0 PSD run perfect.

Define around here. There are Walmarts in Abbotsford, Surrey, Langley and Chilliwack, so there are definitely Walmarts around there.

The sad thing is Walmart's oil price per quart is almost $2 or 40-50% lower than any area auto supplier. I try to shop local, but oil at $4 per quart is CRAZY. I buy Shell Rotella 2.5 Gallon jugs for $25 on sale. Kubota SUDT is $105 per 5g pail.

Why would anyone want to handle the 55 gallon drums of oil? I can buy rotella just as cheep in the gallon or 2.5 gallon jugs. No pump/mess needed for me.

Wall Mart id the cheapest around here. We used to buy delo 400, 100 gallons at a time. But i went to wall mart and got it for 10 dollars a gallon, so i clean off the shelf every time i am at wall mart.
