View Full Version : What would you charge to mow your own yard??
LAWNS AND MOWER

Came up with this idea for a thread when I was mowing my own yard this weekend. If I drove up to my yard to give a estimate, I would politely tell the person I couldn't do it. It's that bad!!!! 40 mins. push mowing, 10 mins. weedeating, and 5 mins. blowing. If I had to price it, it would be $35/cut.

I'd have to say $50/cut for mine although that'd be on a bi-weekly basis for the front since it is wooded and the "grass" doesn't grow. I actually started allowing the front to go "au naturale" last year as whatever grew kept it looking green and the wildlife seemed to like it. The back is a work in progress. Only 14 more trees or so and I'll have a nice meadow. :) With the help of  Cos  I have gotten over 10 trees down and the affect on getting a lawn going has been tremendous! (Thanks Dana!)

I live on a corner lot, so there is more trimming than an interior lot. I would also charge myself $35. I tried to get my 9 year old twin daughters to do the yard, but they are holding out for a Barbie painted/accessorized Lazer Z :)

My lawn is a $30.00 lawn but I gave myself a family discount so that makes it a $25.00 cut. I also will include my fertilizer for the year if I can bring myself to sign a yearly contract! I just dont know if I can count on myself to be on time each week.
:D  :p

Ohhhhh I forgot 2 say w/my son by him self FREE !!!!!!!:D :D :D
Well like a previous poster said he made a deal with his wife, not this summer my wife is expecting twins but next summer im gonna have to make a deal with my wife to mow our small lawn.
Or if she wants to she can take my place in the lawn business and i'll mow the home lawn:D
So i'll just add about 25$ for mowing 1000 square feet to all the money she always manages to get anyway:D

We mow about 3/4 acre of our 5 and make paths through the woods.
We've got it all very mowing "friendly" with little weedeating to do. We'd charge $70/mow. But I like the idea of a family rate, so we'd do it for $50/mow for family. No edging with gravel driveway. Blow off back patio and front entrance. We do this about every other week.

About 125.00 thats why if I ever do hit the jackpot Im not paying anyone to mow mine cost to much. Although I could proably hire a scrub.

About $30.00 for the shop and about $60 for my house. We track it as revenue so we can credit the crew that cuts the grass - and then we zero it out on the accounting side. This way we can accurately track the opportunity cost of doing the work. I'm sure I could find someone cheaper to do the shop and my home... but heck, we're already there!

Mine is a corner lot. It's also what I consider a double lot. Not a lot to mow around, 40 min. push mowing with bagging, about 10 min. of trimming. I would charge 40.00 for it.
When we started this business, we had other LCO's give us estimates on our lawn, they came in between 50-60.

I would turn around and drive away FAST if I had to bid on my lawn.
I would hire a scrub, let them wreck thier blades.
By the way I rent so that is why I do not do anything to fix mine. I also only mow it 4-5 times per year.:D
My yard would run me $55 if I had myself do and paid myself for it. I just wish that in that little circle of cash trasactions there was someone else that came up with the $55 for me. I just never seem to make any money on my own place. Maybe someday:p

I live on a corner lot with another lot included. I'd have to charge at least 40-50. I've done a lot of landscaping to cut down on the amount of mowing and trimming, tried to get rid of as many right angles as possible and installed very large bed areas. This thread got me thinking about how a customer views my price versus what I us to do the work.

Probably around $100 to do the front half of the 5.5 acres I am paying on. Where I lived before I did not water and only mowed 2 or 3 times a year. Nobody could see it but me.
Here I haven't planted any grass yet, just the native stuff that was here. I planted around 250 trees (bare root) for wind break purposes. My water is going to them this year, maybe next. Eventually I plan to put in some grass, but need to get the trees established first.
