I am installing new wire to my trailer. My trailer brakes (one axle both sides) have a red and black wire. Does the black go to the trailer plug or ground on trailer? Previous wires were all melted together and had no color coating left.

I am not 100 %. But it don't matter what wire you go with as long and you have one wire power and one ground. Its magnetic current will go either way. I have never wired a trailer that the wires where all messed. I've seen them where they all have one common ground and one at each wheel. I like the one common though. Hope this helps. Could just try it put wired together the press brakes and see what works also.

overtime is right. Just make sure both wires on both sides are the same. Mags go either way on current. I have rewired several trailers and I just make sure they are the same. I also WILL NOT ground my trailers through the hitch/ball. I always ground through the plug. -Jason
