Just finished using my new fs85 and let me tell you that thing is a champ!!!!!!!!

I had bought a new trimmer 2 weeks ago (won't say brand)
and it was the worst starting trimmer I have ever used.
The dealer couldn't even get it started, and he changed the plug, plug wire, and several other items and it never would start.

Anyway, for anyone looking at the fs85,,,,,,,go for it!!!!!!!!!!!11
It's a trimming machine.

To those who already have them,,, is there anything special I need to do to this trimmer???? Any secrets, or tricks???

Thanks
Chris Kelly

:D I love my Stihl FS-85. There's nothing special you need to do. Just keep it well maintained. Most of time you only will need to trim at half throttle because this thing is so powerful! :D

I have an FS80, 85RT, and FS200R. If you have anymore questions I could probably help you.
Not much you have to do to these machines and it will last for a long time. My FS80 is 4 years old and I cant kill the thing! (I do about 8 hours a week heavy weed, and brush trimming during the summer)

If you think the 85 is powerful you should run the 200R one time:blush:

I've been using my FS85 for two years, still running strong as the day a bought it, it has the most power of any trimmer out there.

Just one thing to remember with a new trimmer is to follow the break in period correctly, if you do this you'll be in good shape. I believe you should not run at full throttle for the first 12-15 tank fulls, but as someone said earlier half throttle is plenty!!!

Good luck with your business!

I bought my Stihl trimmer 5 weeks ago and the cutter head fell off due to the part that holds it to the shaft broke and I get to wait 1 1/2 weeks before the part arrives under warranty, I had thought that it was an upgrade from the ryobi trimmer that I was using trouble free for 4 years and counting

I have 4 fs 85's two which I bought in 98. I put between4-5 hours a day on them. One of them is about dead and the other is still running strong. I think I've gotten my $275 worth:) Run high octane fuel 91+ and you'll get as many hours I have.

I've got two FS-85s, one FS-80 and one HS-80. One of the FS-85s is four seasons old and stihl (pun intended) going strong! The only trouble I've had is the ignition kill wire has broken on the 85s and you have to choke them to shut them off. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I've been using my new FS 85 for a couple of weeks now. Wow, what a difference from my BG 2100 I've had for three years now. My BG 85 is so much more balenced than that Echo is. More power and less vibration. And it's the same weight of the 2100. In reading the owners manual, it says not to run at full throttle for three tanks of gas. You know what they say [if all else fails read the owners manual].

Bought my FS 85 this spring and I also love it. I havn't yet needed full throttle, the thing is so powerful.

I bought a brush blade for it last week and it works great. Under thick brush cutting conditions, it ran an hour and a half without needing more gas.

I run two FS 80's and they're great. Not too often their run full throttle.....so much power. Heard that the Stihl is no longer making the FS 80 so it looks like I'll be getting the 85 when the time comes.

I have been running FS85's for several years and they have been awesome. More power than I ever need and they have tons of hours on them. They all run like the day I bought them new. Very seldom do you ever need to go past 1/2 throttle.

I have Stilhl everything and they have been great and reliable.

Tip: Pull the spark arrester screen and throw it away. The FS85 tends to carbon up the screen and the engine will bog. I've used FS85 trimmers 8 hours a day 5 days a week for a National Cemetery job. Never a problem as long as you throw out that spark arrester. JD

I just got a FS-85 and love it but another LCO I met put me down for not getting a Shindawia he said I made a big mistake. I like the Stihl and was thinking of replacing a BP blower with a Stihl has any one had good luck with them ?

Mine do well...
FS85, FS85RT, Br320..

I run amsoil 50 to 1. Never have to run the trimmers wide open.

I just learned to run high octane in the two strokes,..been running the cheapest gas I could find..

I've had a BR-400 for six seasons of heavy year round use, I've never done anything but replace dry rotted fuel line and clean the carburator. Changed plugs and filters as needed too. I've only used Stihl 2 stroke oil since day 1, it seems to work well.

I love their trimmers and chainsaws but HATE their blowers. I have had nothing but down time with their blowers.

I have 2 85's and an echo srm2601 and the Stihls are strong as they come. Never had a problem with the stihls- the only thing I do with all my trimmers is put the 6" green machine heads on them and cut the rear of the guards off so I can get more sting out of them. try this sometime, it is the best setup I have found and all I do is trim 8-9 hr/day. The extra size of the head + extra string creates more inertia for lower throttles, thus less scalps and better feathering, especially around rock walls. I can trim in 1/2 the time it takes most guys with less effort.

I've got an FS85 split shaft, been using it for about a month now. Plenty of power and then some. Got the edger attachment too.
I am starting to have problems with mine not idling, wants to die. Any suggestions ?

Read the manual under 'carb adjustments' My FS85 did this also, after they are broke in (5-8 tank fulls) the carb needs a little adjusting.

Good Luck.

Tell that moron LCO that he's an a** h*** for me, would ya?
How can anybody be that much of a creep that he would tell
you you made a mistake purchasing your Stihl trimmer because
it's not a Shindaiwa?

You bought a great piece of equipment .
