Got bored and so I went out and striped up the lawn some...
I wasn't able to capture it at it's best (with the camera) due to the sun's positioning (4:35 pm at time of taking). So more to come, later when the sun goes down more, this one was taken after 1 direction.
Look on!

Aw, jee thanks!:D
some are kinda wavy but my throttle cable got messed up and I had to reach back and hold the control thing up while steering with one hand (uses a steering wheel) if it wasn't for that they would be straighter.

My "big" mower is my 1989 Toro 32" 8hp rear engine rider. Yah, I made a striping roller for it. I like the rollers better than anything else. You get a better cut quality and also it has more weight resting on it to bend the grass better. The deck is not super heavy but it's alot better than the wimpy weight of chains. I love the anti scalp cups they put on blades on Toro's! It's impossible to scalp with them on even with the big 32" blade! Here's the mower and I will post a closeup of the roller. This shows it with my crappy old homemade catcher. I only use it for leaves and this summer I'm gonna make a better one from steel. This one was kind of a prototype to see how it would work. It worked great... I normally side discharge during grass season.

The mower actually striped pretty decent (for a rear engine rider) without the roller but it's amazing how much better it is with the roller. Betcha never saw a homeowner mower that used a steering wheel cut and stripe so nice huh? I tweeked it out a little, yes....It's a pretty nice mower compared to other rear engine riders really. It's alot nicer to use. Nice and smooth... I also tightened the steering (steers tighter) and did some other mod's to it..
Oh yea this is with the deck in up position. The roller rests on the ground when it's in cut position.

No doubt about it, those single blade mowers do a great job. I'd like to see better pics of your roller and see how you made it.

Yea the single blade gives such a nice cut... My grandpa noticed this too and that's why he uses a Snapper. But he cuts waaayyy toooo looooww wants his common yardgrass/weed mix to be his own putting surface... His Snapper doesn't scalp too bad though I think it's 28" or so.
Later I'll pull off the mower deck and get some better shots of the roller. I gotta pull it anyway to clean some **** out. You just can't get good shots of the roller with it on. No bearings or anything just some angle iron brackets 6" long (one on each side) with a 1/2" rod welded between them, with a 1 1/2" or so steel pipe slid over that (before the rod gets welded!) and then holes drilled appropriately in the angle iron to bolt to the anti scalp wheel mounts that were already there. Very cheap and simple. Very effective. Works good at 2.5" when the roller is supporting the mower's weight and at 3" where the roller is just about 1/4" to 1/2" off the ground, so it still is pretty effectual. These pics were at 3". Seems to be alittle better there than 2.5" but alot of customers like it at 2.5" so they get it!

GEO, if you're referring to the first pic on the second page here, it looks curved but it's actually in a dip, but I took the pic at an angle... it really is a dip though. It's straight when you see it head on. This is the first time I used the 32" mower in front, before used a 21" mower, alittle faster, looks three times better! hope they don't mind LOL.

They look great!! I did a similar mod on my Honda 38" rider. I didn't have much room behind the deck and the back wheels so I used some straight Iron, 3" pvc pipe, and 1/2'' threaded rod. I put the rod through the pvc and filled it with concrete. I then mouted it to the rear of the rider. It worked really well. It was a bit combersome, but I didn' t have too much backing up to do when I was mowing. I just sold it to my neighbor after I got my 48" Gravely walkbehind with the built in striping flaps!! :blob3:
