What do you guys wear for sun protection? I was out mowing over the weekend from 8:00AM to 3:00PM, and I really got burned. I don't think I can go out today.

What are you wearing on your heads to protect you face and necks? I don't think a ball cap would have helped much, and I cant stand to put oily stuff like sun tan lotion on my face.

Thanks for your .02

I normally wear a ballcap with a big brim, a damp hand towel under the cap to protect my neck, lightweight long pants and a long sleeved t-shirt. This setup works pretty well for me to protect me from the sun.

I'd recommend a sunscreen. Hats and whatever else still let UVA and UVB rays in through them...yeah, they slow them down tremendously, but what is some goop on your face vs. sunburns, or worse yet, skin cancer down the road. I'd get something that is non-comedogenic, meaning it wont clog your pores, and is at least 30 SPF. They make several that are water based that arent oily and stay on all day without coming off. Ya may want to look into something that is waterproof so that if if gets hot and you sweat, it wont be running down the front of your face and collar of your shirt :D If you do your looking, you can find sunscreens that dont even feel like they're on...Hats are good for style, sunscreen is good for preventing skin damage...

I use a 45 or 50 spf sunblock and when working I wear an army jungle hat to protect my face and neck. It also breathes very well also.

I use a spray on sunscreen that has a SPF of 30. That way I don't have to get it on my hands. It seems to work well. Also, I buy the pharmacy store brand. It's always cheaper and has the same active ingredients.

I slather on the SPF30 sunscreen and use the spray too on my head. My husband uses the spray SPF30 because he doesn't like the goopy stuff on his hands either. It offers good protection and dries fast. I wear shorts and put sunscreen on arms and legs too! But we still have farmers' tans. I don't wear a hat, but I spray sunscreen on my head. Sunscreen is waterproof. And when the bugs are bad, we use Coppertone Bug and Sun SPF30. It is waterproof also and made for kids so it is pretty gentle.

Sometimes I wonder what putting all these chemicals on our bodies will do in the future vs. the exposure to the sun? These days they are finding something wrong with everything.

We saw a red headed boy out mowing one day with no shirt, no hat and no sunglasses. I KNOW he was sore when he got home. He was already pink when we saw him. Not too smart!!! These are the same newbies who never sharpen their mower blades and the grass shows it.

Check out http://www.sunprecautions.com/index.htm

I wear the "Adult shade cap with neck drape." Looks sort of like a French Foreign Legion hat. I also have a pair of their gloves.

The fabric is supposed to be a lot better at stopping UV rays then normal material.

I am not affiliated with them...just a satisfied customer.

I use a hat that I purchased from Gempler's called a Solarweave. It has a 3 1/2" brim and is supposed to block the UVA/B rays. It was about $30 after shipping and, for what it is, I think is overpriced. But I like it and will probably buy another when I wear this one out. I still slather on the sunscreen as well.

Hmm.. I don't wear sun block and I don't burn, but I don't look white any more either.

The reason I use such expensive sunscreen is because it lasts longer, and I have albinism so my skin is extremely sensititve to the sun. Without sunscreen I will burn in about half an hour. The sunscreen I buy from the doctor has 7 percent Zinc oxide which is what actually protects you from the sun, that is why i buy it. I've tried all of the sunscreens from wal mart and they work, but for my skin I still get burned unless I put them on about every 2 hours and I just dont have time to do that. I only use the expensive stuff for mowing. So I just think of it as another buisness expence and buy it.

I must be lucky because all I do is put some hand lotion on every night and every morning on my legs, arms and head. I don't wear a ball cap or sunblock and did I mention I'm bald? I wear shorts and no sunglasses. Every once in awhile my head burn in a shower that is too hot, but not much else.:D

dude, your dermatologist is ripping you off. Consumer reports magazine and others have done tests that show there's not much difference in brands. Certainly not about $40 worth. I'd find another doctor. Then again, maybe your skin condition requires something special...

I'm fair skinned but almost never burn if I start slow in the Spring and wear a hat. I don't wear sunscreen for the reasons others have said, it makes stuff stick to me and I get tarred and feathered by the end of the day. I know I should, but it's just not practical.

Yeah .. you gotta wear sunscreen .. hats and clothes are great .. but your skin requires more protection ... I used to use banana boat SPF50 when I cut grass (it was so thick ... my boss used to joke about having to put it on with a mortar shovel) ...

I have some weird thing growing on my face now .. and i am concerned .. over this next week, I'm going to the doctor to get it looked at ... it's really a weird looking tanish/skinish color that wasn't there last year and is now quite noticable to me ...

When I used the sunscreen, I didn't completely cover myself .. only impt areas like nose and arms and legs .. I don't think I put it on the rest of my face .. I am fair skinned and burn easily .. in fact, I usually don't even 'tan' .. I turn red .. and I stay red. :) ...and now I have learned that not using the sunscreen properly could have been a serious mistake .. you gotta use it .. you gotta keep using it .... you gotta make sure you're protected ... use my mistake as education ... live and learn, I suppose.

Well I went back to buy some more sunscreen from the dermo, and they said it was onlly 25, I was like when did they change the price and the lady goes well they didnt its always been 25 so I told them what i payed last time, she looked it up on my accnt, and formy "inconvinience" I got this bottle for FREE! yeah! but the dermo's sunscreen does work better for me than any other. the only one that come close is coppertone sport, but i have to re-apply that so much to not get burned it takes up too much time. later, Ricky

Check out Tilley hats on the net. They're great! The prices at local distributors are around 12-15 dollars less than the catalog prices. They have washable wide brim hats and also the long bill baseball style with the neck flap that rolls up when not needed. They say to include it in your will because it's guaranteed.
