MODS PLEASE MOVE THIS Thread to the right section (Organic) in the forums. I goofed.

Anyone know any info on this stuff .

I am also hoping for info on a weed control product called IRONX if that rings a bell to anyone.

ODC includes chitosan, the exoskeleton of shellfish, as its principal ingredient. The AgriHouse team holds a patent on the ability of chitosan to induce a defense response by all plants.

It was Linden’s research that recognized ODC molecules “fit inside” receptors attached to the surface of cells in the tree root. According to Knutson, these root networks thrive in the top soil nearest to the tree’s drip ring, i.e. the soil directly under the tree branches. Once the molecule adheres to the receptor, a switch is activated in the plant cell that elicits chemical responses throughout the plant and increases plant health,
stimulates photosynthesis, and overcomes environmental stresses such as beetle attacks and blue stain fungus infection.
“We’ve developed an environmentally friendly product that we believe will begin to address the
pine-beetle epidemic across Colorado,” said Linden. The 2008 U.S. Forest Service Study showed the elevated sap output using ODC has the potential to reduce about 37 percent of the pine beetle eggs in treated trees,” Linden said.
Knutson added, “Based on research thus far, we think we have a new tool to help suppress and slow down the massive pine beetle epidemics currently raging throughout the Western United States.”

ODC is available under the brand name ODC Colloidal Chitosan in two sizes - a 1-ounce bottle for $24.99 (30 treatments) and an 18.5-ounce bottle for $249.99 (550 treatments). ODC is currently available at nurseries in Colorado and via the AgriHouse website at http://www.ODCchitosan.com, Loveland Garden Center & Nursery, Loveland, Colorado, and Ft. Collin Nursery, Ft. Collins, Colorado.

I would think that treatments (30 treatments) would strictly depend on the size of the tree, small drip line vs large drip line

1 ounce for $24.95 is extremely expensive, does it have a EPA CAS number, I don't see it registered with the EPA
Notice in their quote they never say that they kill, control or manage pine beetles

there is a someone I know that made the same claim with vermicompost from shrimp shells, he is being taken to court by the state for making pesticidal claims

send me an email I can give you some insight bill@ictorganics.com

Yes, that someone has a patent on his product that makes use of vermicompost solution with high levels in chitosan. It was used successfully to treat for certain pine bark beetles in residential areas that were surrounded by beetle infested forest. The photos I saw clearly show how well the treatment worked. Unfortunately, as this was not an EPA registered or exempt product the state came down hard on his company. The legal battle has been going on for several years now.

The above link is their brochure. It does indicate an EPA #.

I tried searching the EPA Pesticide and Biopesticide Databases but came up with nothing regarding that EPA#.

Is it possibly temporarily registered, I am not sure.
I had a hit with that EPA number and KellyBook

Here is a good review of the ODC Colloidal Chitosan reported by the Coloradoan Newspaper, Ft Collins, Colorado and 7 News, Denver Newpaper

It appears that EPA's record keeping is a little behind at the eight-ball in getting it posted on their web sites.

ODC Colloidal Chitosan is an EPA registered eco-friendly biopesticide EPA reg. no. 83729-1 (June 2009).
