I need to replace the ATV tyres on my Walker. Just got quoted a
ridiculous price from the dealer. Cost more that the 7.00R16 tyres
on my truck!

Are there any other tyres that will fit this rim size ok? The current
tyres are 18x11-10. I like the tread patern on these as they give good traction on slopes, but not at the dealer price!

Is the dealer called Ned Kelly by any chance?Out of interest what are Walkers selling for in Australia,I just been in for a quote on a new one here,I think Ned Kelly is importing them here:angry: (Ned Kelly for US guys was a famous Aussie stick up guy)

Jim,

I paid about 25 grand for mine (AUD). Friend recently got a quote
for the same machine at 21 grand. Not happy! I have a 26 EFI
with 48"GHS deck.

Love the motor though,pulls hard.

Jim,

EFI not available in NZ? Or is it dearer than the diesel?
Over here the EFI is cheaper by about 3 grand.

Here it is,just after mowing the back yard.Didn't bother catching it.

A quick look at the J. Thomas catalogue lists the walker as
using a 18x8.50-8 or a 18x9.50-8 these range in price from
$26 to $38. They don't have a listing for your size. You may
have an odd size and be at the mercy of the dealer.

I am guessing you are talking about the mower dealer - maybe you would be better off shopping at a tire dealer that handles several brands. I found that size listed in some ATV sites (Titan) for $46.

Karl,26 I didn't bother asking ,those prices I can walk over the road to the car dealer and buy a new car.The most popular model here is the 11hp with 42'' deck.

Karl and Jim,

Are there any local manufacturers of equipment in your countries?
Like a brand that we havent heard of in the U.S.
I'm just curious.
What do local lawn care owners use for equipment.

Sorry to get off the subject.

MOW ED only 2 brands of lawnmower made in New Zealand Lawnmaster and Masport http://www.masport.co.nz/masport_nz/rotarymowers/mpt_morrison.html .The most popular commercial pushmower here is the Australian Rover Brand.Ride ons and ZTRs are all imported,Walker is the most popular commercial becaus it bags,I also see JD's,MTDs,Kubotas,Toros and Dixons around. No Dixies,Hustlers,Exmarks down here. The only ride on I can think of that claims to be built here is the Rotomoa Trike,I've seen a few around, sort of Easy Rider meets ZTR,are they a US brand made up down here?,their website doesnt really say.

hahahahaha:alien: Jim, thats the best thing I've seen in a while.... Does that thing actually work? Looks kinda fun. A big wheels trike w/ an engine & deck attached....

The trike looks entertaining. Would be interesting on steep slopes.

Jim,we don't have the 11hp available here,Smallest we have is the 16hp.

I've tried some tyre dealers today and it looks like I'm stuck with an odd size. Seems that Walker has this strange tyre size so they
are the only suppliers of that size and charge accordingly. :blob2:

I'm now looking at putting new rims on the mower, going to a more common size. Will not pay $475 AUD for a pair of small atv
tyres.

Yep the trike mows I've seen a few in action, they are OK on a big area but they dont turn to good around trees ond obstacles without some backing up.This is the web sitehttp://www.rotomoa.co.nz/Services.shtml

Some thoughts.

First I am not sure what kind of tire you are running, but for me the Lo Profile tires I have on mine are around $70 US. I tried getting some from a local tire dealer. No luck. It was the same size number wise and all. But the tires wouldn't fit, rubbed on the side of the mower body and the deck both. Weird huh?

Over here the 26 HP EFI with a 48" GHS deck and suspension seat is around $11K. Too much I say.

Somebody mentioned the 11 HP with a 42" deck. I found that the 16 HP barely had enough power for the 42" deck. I love the 25 HP but it sure likes its gas when you work it hard.

We run the all terain low pro tires in winter but go back to the turf tires in mowing season they do dig up much easier if not careful. We also got our 26EFI with 9.5 bagger, tail locks, comfort seat and light kits for $9,799.00 well under the 11k mentioned but different dealers do have different prices and in there are may be less dealers which can be a reason for high prices like that. We have 6 dealers under 1hr from us.
