Should grass be cut higher during dry season or should it be cut the same height year round? Here in Hawaii we only have wet and dry seasons.

First of all, what kind of grass? If it is bermuda, zoysia or seashore paspalum, it should be cut at less than an inch with a reel mower. You are allowed to raise up a 1/4" if your height of cut is already less than 1/2" during the months of December-April. For centipede and st augustine, the height of cut is 3", no change. I could not call our seasons wet or dry, but know that the grasses here do poorly if it drops below 70 at night, day time temps do not go above 80 and there are more clouds than sun. Furthermore, it normally does not rain enough for a lawn to do well on this island. Unless it rains an inch per week, every week consistently, you need an automatic irrigation system. Raising the height of cut just gives an unkempt lawn, that is thatchy, full of weeds and generally looks bad.
