I think from what I've read the "expected life" of these commercial machines is 2000 hours.
of course how you care for them makes a huge difference, along w/ the components it's made from (diesel will out live gas for example)

2500 is a good time to move on if you can. If you are starting out or do not have much cash flow then you look for the best deal you can.
If you are asking because you are starting out and looking for amower buy something you CAN afford. Most likley it will have higher hours and it may break from time to time. Do your best to fix it yourself or get someone to help you. Think of it as a learning experiance. As your business grows being able to do your own maintenance will be one of your biggest assets.

good rule of thumb for gas engins, is 100 x hp, if machine has been taken care of

We run our Lazer z's about 2-2500 hours then rebuild the motor for $7-900 then its good for about another 1500-2000 hours. Usually have a hydro motor and pump rebuild in the 2-3000 hour area also. I have a buddy that has some Exmarks with 8-9000 hours on them. He just keeps rebuilding the motors on them.

They are all paid for so if you have to sink $1000 a year into them its still way cheaper than a new one ($10,000)
