Well I decided to step it up from the 5x10 this year and purchased a 2009 Top Brand 6x16 tandem axle trailer with brakes on both axles. I really only need a 6x12 right now but this one will give more room to add another mower in the future. I got alot of my racks to switch over and alot of other stuff to do to it . Haven't started doing anything to it yet but heres a few pictures.

Its a little muddy from their lot but I cleaned it up

That looks longer than 16ft in the pictures. Looks closer to a 20ft to me. I guess it must be the angle of the picture? It looks great though, I hope you didnt pay over $1000. for it though? That looks identical to the one I bought last year, even down to the front coupler and the side rails, Everything is identical to mine! I paid $1000. for mine brand new. What company did you buy it from?

nope 16ft. I paid $1995 that was the cheapest around here, I spent almost a whole day driving to dealers and talking to people most were $2400-$2800 another one was $2200. I liked these basically the best and the owner was the nicest guy he new everything too, his attitude is what sold me.
You got a heck of a deal thats all I gotta say!!

Yes it was time lol. I like open way better no going inside to get stuff, can load stuff over the sides, cheaper, lighter, can haul machines/even small vehicles etc etc

many people like them for the reason they can lock equipment and it provides shelter for the equipment, I would rather park my trailer in a garage(all though that sometimes becomes a problem lol) its whatever suites your needs better

Oh okay, mine's 7500 payload, but I'd rather tow your trailer all day. I could haul a car or a small skid if I had to, but mine's heavy behind the truck for all day work. I'd rather have a lighter mowing trailer.

Yes its nice because its lighter for mowing but also should be strong enough to haul a machine or whatever every so often

It is illegal in MA to run a 16' trailer without brakes. I really wouldn't want to either. 2 grand is a good price on that trailer you bought. Be glad you have brakes when you have the thing fully loaded and some kid runs out in front of you chasing a ball.

you can and you can get them with just brakes on one axle but in pa you have to have them on both

You will like working out of a bigger trailer. Much easier to get at all your tools and equipment than a tightly cramped small trailer.

That ramp is in need of a big ol' sign on the back of it!

Sorry to steal thread - looks very nice by the way...good job for $2k.

I'm looking at a used 18' tandem axle Saturday with a new deck, paint, wiring and trimmer rack for $1750. Spoke with the seller today and he bought it new, knows it well, and didn't pressure me at all. Do not know the brand. Indicated the front brakes will need hooked back up...

Any thoughts on this...I was considering offering $1500 for it?

Can't take credit for that dad did all of it! I just painted it. I could have if a I wanted, I am pretty good with fabbing stuff up but he can do it much faster and nicer, I was working on other things on the trailer.

We both fabbed the last one also but he said lets just make a whole new one so he could leave the other one on the stainless trailer for whatever. Had to buy about $100 worth of angle for it though.

Last few pictures of it all set up. I tompsons water sealed the floor(also has a light stain to it). Put a big sign on the gate. And me and my dad custom made the way the gate opens/closes/locks. I didn't like the idea of lining up pins and loosing the hitch pins etc.-You can see the way it latch in one of the pictures I posted when I first got it. The way he designed it on the stainless trailer was perfect so we did it again.

Also down the road I would like to add a spare tire and maybe beef up the gate/add an extention so its 5ft not 4ft.

Stained/sealed floor

Had to add these angles so the gate stops square

thanks, funny you should ask your the first. I could throw the 5x10 in there like it was nothing. this is a bit harder also considering my family has 4 drivers and 6 vehicles plus the trailer. First day I was pulling it out I got the garage door rail a bit bent it back into shape though and works fine. Its hard with this big trailer sine I also have to back all the way down our alley. I should get used to it soon though

Hey guys still got this trailer, We just recently took off the gate and built a new longer and heavier duty one Here are some pictures...

After fabrication-new gate is on left
214282

Painted and hooked up
214283
214284

I also added to more springs on the outside to help with the weight, still not as light as the other gate was but these help a alot
214285

had to modify a bunch of things did this because the gate is skinner and alot so the second spring stays separate

yes I would like to get a used equipment trailer sometime so I don't have to put the bobcat on this one but it helps. The big reason for doing this was to make it longer so mower decks don't scrape. If I was going to do that I wasn't going to use the cheap mesh and angle that was on the old one.

Hmm not exactly sure I will have to measure it, its not a standard size it was made to fit my other gate thats why I had to add those metal straps across to mount it on
