View Full Version : 6 acre overseeding

I work almost exclusively with Bermuda, therefore have little need for an overseeding unit. However, I believe that I am about to win a contract for a 6 acre fescue property that will require annual overseeding/aerating. I have 10-20 other properties that could also benefit from this service.

What type of unit would best fit the need of this large property? Where can I find them? ~cost?

Anyone near NW Arkansas (not my competitors) that would want to sub contract this work? I have to have them numbers on Monday. Call me (479) 530-7001.

I have read threads that suggest $35 per K for overseeding pricing. wow. really? even on a property that large? If you seed at 10 lbs per K, and you pay $75 per 50 lbs of seed, that would be $3900 of seed. If you have $200 of additional fertilizer (fertilizer program included already), that is a cost of $4100. at $35 per K, I would have to charge $9100 for a profit of $5000. That seems high.

Thread Review:

(1) What unit should I purchase and approximate cost?
(2) If I chose to sub this out, anyone interested?
(3) Pricing help for a large bid.

Please assist. I'm out of my element on this overseeding issue.

Thanks.

I wish I lived closer!

Do you have a tractor or have access to a tractor? If you do I would highly recommend you look at the Landpride seeder. You can get a good used unit for about 4 grand! It will pay for itself over and over if you get it and nobody else is seeding in your area.

I don't know if you have gotten seed prices lately..but you can get an 80/20 TTTF/PR blend for about $.75/lb and 10#/k is FULL rate as you can get by with 8.

Also if you are overseeding you only need to be 3-5# depending on the stand.

I do a lot of seeding if you have any questions post or PM me and we can discuss!

With the looks of the condition of the machine...you are high!

I see machines that are 3-4 years old and look perfect go for 4 grand! When I bought my machine I paid that and it was barely used!

Sorry...just my two cents!

If someone finds one better and cheaper...more power to you. If you search this site, there is only one other machine listed. It was listed at $3500 for same looking machine. difference is that the blade condition is the most important item (assuming the rest of the machine is in good working order). The blades are expensive to replace. The machine I have has blades with about 10 hours on them.

Good luck with your search.

Here is an OS1572 (a lot bigger machine) that is 4 years old and is going for $3900 on ebay.

There are several other sites also I can usually look about 6-8 of these machine at all times for the same money and they are only a couple years old.

I agree that the blades are not cheap to replace...but I would much rather buy a newer machine that looks awesome and spend $600 on blades!

rcreech...do you have a link? I searched eBay and couldn't find any Land Pride OS models for sale. I have found several (4-6) for sale on the internet on several sites. Some are less, some are more. Nobody offering 300 mile delivery for the same price. I don't claim to be cheap. Not saying there aren't better deals. I just have a competitive price for a very good machine. If you would rather pay an extra $1,000 for a machine that looks better, than go ahead. No problem. http://www.tractorhouse.com/list/list.aspx?ETID=1&catid=1124&Manu=LAND+PRIDE
this link will take you to quite a few OS15-48's way more than mine...some in worse condition. Few with good cutting blades. I think anybody can find one example of a better deal. I found six worse deals depending on your perspective. If you are selling any equipment...let me know...I would love to make a little money.

Here are a few more. Not trying to be an @$$, just trying to make a point. I do my homework. I offer a fair deal for the right person. You have obviously not researched the going price on these machines. If you don't like the deal, walk away. If you find a better deal, then make the buy. Just make sure you know what a truly fair market value is before you go selling anything.

Ooops! Forgot to post the link!

Here it is!

I am not trying to be a jerk either...but I have two LP seeders and I DO keep an eye on the market!

I think my 2006 Chevy is worth $20,000 and I can show you a ton of people that have pictures and are ASKING the same price...but the reality is what can you ACTUALLY sell it for!

The US Farmer link doesn't show an OS model! I only see a PS.

The Equipment Trader looks exactly like mine (new) when I got it...and I only paid 4 grand!

What are you trying to show?
