I posted this on treeservicesite as well but that site doesnt get the traffic that this one does. I'm looking at a Whisper chipper, one of the Asplundh style ones, a little older but seems to be in good shape, Im going to look at it again this week and try it out, however I was looking for some feedback from people who have these, what your thoughts are on them and any common problems with these to watch out for. I know they're the older style and loud, but I don't do enough tree work to warrant a newer more expensive chipper. Thanks

From what I heard they weren't bad chippers, very simple design and did what they were made for, but there is a reason why the older ones were nicknamed chuck and duck.

What type of work would you be using them for? They are good for live tree branches so long as they are properly trimmed. When it comes to dead material, or wood.. they aren't the greatest. Don't know that I'd want to use one for disposing of vines or old bushes either.

Ill just be chipping tree limbs, the ones too small to bother with for firewood. I only do about 20 large tree jobs a year anyway, along with alot of smaller ones, but the chipper wont get a ton of use.

well im in both tree care and lawn care but mostly tree care. those chippers are almost the best chippers out there. simple, powerful, sips gas, run for ever and give you a good product to sell or use at the end of the day. the only down fall is that you cant change the direction of the shoot and that becomes a PITA when you have bigger jobs because you have to move the truck. from what your saying i think its your best choice. if i could afford one at the moment i would go ahead and get a chipper but i just started up this year and starting to save up for a bigger truck and a 9-12 inch disk chipper but they cost alot so i may end up getting one of these chuck and ducks.
