What do you guys normally have strapped to your hooves on a daily basis? I think a majority usually have just tennis shoes but I'm curious. Tennis shoes, Regular boots, Steel Toe Boots, etc. What do you wear and what brands?

light hiking shoes with gore tex. Keeps the feet dry. The hikers are just stiff enough and light for moving around the lawns.

Yah its something you have to get used to with steel toes and a nice ankle support. One thing I find funny is if you switch over to a pair without you'll do something stupid like place a manhole on your toes without thinking :walking:.

have a tall pair of wolverine leather work boots. used to wear tennis shoes but i got real tired of pulling grass out from around my ankles...wanted something I could wear tall socks with without looking like a dbag. the boots hold up nice, the tread is just worn down enough the dog sh*t doesn't stick in there for very long hahaha.

Steel toe for me every day from here on out. I dropped a 2x10x12 on my big toe a few months back on the one day I decided to wear tennis shoes because I had an easy day planned. It bled for three days, stayed swollen for about 2 weeks and I finally lost the toenail tonight. Made me rethink what an easy day is. Now I wear my redwings everywhere I go just in case.
I have also had a fully loaded tandem axle crane truck drive onto my foot and park years ago when I was a mechanic. Steel toes could be the only thing that saved me. It still broke my foot but the boot held up long enough to get the drivers attention to get him off of my foot. ( He parked and started filling out paperwork). The weight was enough to start to collapse the steel toe section of the boot.
My point is things happen when you don't expect it. Most of the time your not goiong to get hit in the eye when you are trimming but you still wear safety glasses right? Protect yourself because if you get hurt it is your business and your paycheck that is effected unless you have employees that can pick up the slack.

Hi all, actually my first post on the site..Been reading Lawnsite for a while, I figured footwear is pretty important so had to say how happy my feet are after a day of walking behind a mower in these..My first day mowing on a mow crew (years ago) I showed up in CAT Steeltoes...after walking around (fast) for 10 hours with 5lbs on each foot, I figured out why the other guys had basically running shoes on :) I literally could barely walk the rest of the week after trenching around in those for 2 days. However, I could understand if you were on a standup or ztr all day, steel toes would make sense.

I'm in the military and will NEVER take comfortable footwear for granted. I wear the same boots all day long, Altama 8" EXOSpeed's (Desert). I switch from my new one's to my two-yr old one's as soon as I switch jobs. They aren't steel toes, but they are extremely well-made and are, by far, the lightest boots I've ever had! To me, they feel like tennis shoes compared to what I had always worn before. Their site has some big discounts that are far cheaper than buying full price around military installations.

Man, I don't get how some guys can wear tennis shoes while working outside. I need the ankle support. I like Wolverine gore-tex lacers. Light, waterproof, sturdy, comfortable, with a light tread so I don't drag too much mud everywhere.
And I guarantee I can out run nearly everybody who wears tennis shoes on this site in my boots and jeans.

Ive been wearing Doc Marten industrial boots for the past 7 years for work. I think im ready for my first pair of Danners. Ive been doing a lot of research, and I like the Super Quarry, and Super Rain Forest, but neither are made in the US, and the reviews aren't impressive. So back to the original ones I saw, the Acadia steel toe. Think thats my #1 pick. Now I just have to find the best place to order em from

i went ahead and got some Lawngrips again. I said i would never buy another pair as they did not last as long as they cost. although that may be true, they are as i remember as being the most comfortable , stable and protective footwear i have ever worn for working in lawns etc. they get super traction, are light, have wide toe area with steel toe, and the leather and craftsmanship are very well done.
it is the sole that wears out as it does not have a deap tread so there is not much to go through. i have conversed with them a bit about this but they dont seem to wnat to change anything so........ i just wish the sole treads were a bit deaper to last longer, at least one season for me.
I do recommend them, and wanted to get the brutus, but backorder and need for boots got me the nest in line, the 8 in pro model i have had b4.

I used to wear lace up, steel toed boots. after several months of my feet cooking in those suckers on a daily basis, I switched to a Merrell gore-tex hiking boot...Seeking more comfort, I switched to a Merrell, gore-tex hiking type shoe to keep me dry...when it's definitelygoing to be dry all day (no dew) I wear a pair of Merrell water-pro Maipo's....very lightweight, see thru mesh upper and extremely comfortable. For me, doing 95 lawns a week, it's all about comfort....ALWAYS wear my Walk-Fit inlays too. my feet never get tired.

I've got steal toed CAT hydraulic boots for my work boots. I usually replace them every other year, always get the same model.
I use tennis shoes when I just mow or work around my own yard, but since my tennis shoes are my everyday shoes, I don't want to get them nasty.
I do find that the steal toed boots provide the most protection, which is an important feature for me.

How waterproof are they? Is it the Red Wing waterproofing or Gore-Tex?
I like gore-tex because I can stand in puddles all day, deal with rain all day, etc. and still have dry feet. A lot of gore-tex knock-offs aren't up to that task.
