View Full Version : Who's fueling their equipment with WVO or Bio?
I'm collecting oil from lots of sources and was wondering if anyone here is running Waste Vegetable oil as fuel in their equipment? I plan on using it in my truck, skidsteer, and tractor as soon as warmer weather gets here.
If you are using it currently, could you answer these questions?
1. how long have you been using it in your equipment?
2. What mods have you done to the equipment, ie filter add ons, heat exchanger, control valves?
3. are you processing into Bio or running straight VO?
4. Would you run it in a diesel mower?
5. have you any major problems?

Good topic. I know very little about this. Are people running bio or VO in skid loaders and other equiptment? May be something to look into.

we had trouble running b5, it did not like the filters on the buses or the skids/tractors...

B5 is the processed fuel available at retailers right? I think thats only %5 WVO? What brand filters were used? Did you start with new filters when you went to Bio?

I have been making wvo bio-diesel for a little over a year. I have been running it in a 03 F250, 84 mercedes 300d, mid 80's 20 horse kubota, and 05 50 horse agco tractor.
I have put over 10k miles on the F250 - great results in all of the above.
We are adding lawn service to our existing business of property management and restoration this year. We have a kubota 326 that will be run exclusively on bio.
When you first switch to bio (commercial or home-made) it will have a detergent effect and push a lot of junk into your fuel filter. Once you clean out the system, you shouldn't have any further problems. I clogged the filter in my F250 twice in the first month of running bio - but no problems since.
Well worth it in my opinion - it takes a little time, but we make fuel for .68 cents a gallon. We built our processor mostly from scavenged stuff, maybe spent $100 on it. Check out journeytoforever.com for lots of info.
Good Information! thanks
I filled up my truck with B20 over the weekend while I was in St. Louis. this is the first time it's seen Bio and I noticed an improved performance to some degree. I wish there were retailers here in KY selling Bio but there are none close.
I'm working on my filtering station this week and I've just purchased a 400 gallon stainless tank with an agitator. from what I understand about blending, the settling process is very important and the agitator should only be used for the initial blending. anyone else using this process of blending WVO 80% to Dino 20%?
