Looking for ideas

I have a customer that I have had problems growing grass in two areas.
Both areas are fairly shady and one area is at the bottom of a small slope and at the end of the driveway which is probably the worse of the two. Nothing grows.
THey are open to putting something else in.

Any ideas of what could be going on or alternative ideas?

Ground cover is your best bet. Main ones for shade are: pachysanda, myrtle, ivy, ajuga, ferns, hosta, various forms of stonecrop, goutweed, Lamium and more.
And don't forget euonymous, (although it may climb trees fences and structures, as will ivy).
