I found a site for a good looking "Tilt O Meter" ;)

For mowing those mountain sides...

I have a tilt meter like that on my JD 855 compact tractor and I like it. They even have one with audible and visual alarms. I can't imagine putting one on my walk-behind, but on a tractor it's not a bad idea. If I'm on a 20 degree slope with my 5 foot brush hog, it's not far at all from going over...would only take a bump or hole to roll it. Too many people die from being crushed by equipment, I'd rather not be one of them.

My greatgrandfather was killed on a slight slope on farmall tractor when one of the brakes locked up and forced it into a tight spin...

Sorry to hear about Gramps. A slight slope is all it takes on some machines. Thats why newer tractors (and used ones from dealers) come with roll bars and a seat belt.
