I only have a small piece of property (80x100) but the 6.75hp 21" troy built isnt cutting it (pun intended). Even with a fresh blade my kentucky bluegrass is too thick to leave a good cut and mulch. I am looking into the red hawk walk behinds and found it for $1800 shipped for a 3' deck and $2100 for 4' deck. I hear these are alot better than the crap cadets. I dont want to drop 3k on a scag as my property is small and i dont cut anyone elses grass just want something that will take less time and give a good clean cut. Anyone have a red hawk give me feedback please, thanks.

Just use the search button and look at all the threads about them.

They are garbage.

And FYI Cub Cadet is head and shoulders above RedHawk.

Your money would be better spent buying a used hydro commercial walk behind like a Scag or Exmark. You might consider a Bobcat as well.

I asked a similar question last week in the homeowner forum under the title "Good Enough 36" Walk Behind Mowers ". I didn't get any response about these mowers. I did search extensively and get the impression that 85% of the people who actually own them think they are a good value. Certainly not a premium mower but a good value. The other 15% of people who've used them hate them. I don't know if that is because the mowers suck, the posters got a lemon, or different expectations.

Most of the posts I read got filtered out because they are by people who haven't used them but hate them for political reasons (the decks, blades, and spindles are made in China).

Search on Bradley, Dixon, and LandscaperPro walk behind mowers. They are essentially the same mower with different paint and decals. As you read keep in mind that you'll be using the mower for 0.5 miles a week and many pros in this forum use their walk behind mowers 50 miles a week.

Buying a Cub Cadet or a Redhawk is not going to solve your problem(s). They are junk just like your Troy Bilt, only bigger. Consider a Snapper, Toro, Honda, Ariens, or Sarlo walk behind. By the way good luck finding parts for the Cub Cadet and Redhawk mowers, especially the Redhawk. Sorry if I sound negative, but I have already dealt with cheap equipment in the past. Believe me you don't want to go down that road again. It will just frustrate you even more, especially when it breaks and you can't find parts for it.

You don't have to spend 3K on a mower. You can buy a Sarlo or an Ariens/Gravely wide area walkbehind. Snapper rear engine riding lawnmowers are another choice. Check out their websites.

I just purchased the 48" belt driven Red Hawk. I have only used it a couple times, but everything seems to be fine with it. I did have to assemble some of it before I used it so I was able to look at many if not all the linkages, belts, spindles, etc...

The deck is heavy duty welded, the front casters are heavy duty, the 18 HP Kohler engine, transmission and several other parts are made here in the USA, but sent to China for assembly. This was all information from the rep that sold it to me.

Someone had pointed out that these are similar to the Bradley's, which I think they are under the Red Hawk label.

I got the mower, two wheel sulky, h-duty grass catcher and mulch plate for $2575 delivered....

the redhawks off ebay are a joke. my friend bought one and is beating himself up over it everyday. i cant beleive they even call them commercial mowers. Like the other guys said, if u wont spend good money for a mower, u wont get a NEW mower. However, i just bought 2 used commercial walkbehinds -a 36 gravely w/170 hrs for 1100 and a toro 32" w/ 240 for the same. I suggest u buy a used W.B. and dont waste ur money on ebay specials. BTW why are u looking for commercial mowers if u only cut a tiny yard once in a while? buy a lawn tractor like u said if u cant walk it w/ a push mower

i could see why u would want a walk behind mower as they are fun and productive to use, but seriously think about what is most effective for your property. i wasnt trying to sound like a prik w/ my last post, just dont want u to waste ur money. other people may love there redhawks and i hope they do. But after 100 hrs my good friend who is a Landscape company owner as well has had nothing but negative comments about his. he has already replaced the spindles after 50 hours and he said it cuts like crap in tall grass. I used it once on his own yard at his house and it didnt seem too bad, but i take his word since he uses it everyday. I owned a John Deere tractor for my own yard be4 i had a company and it never gave me problems at all and it was comfy as hell! Good luck man and spend wisely

Personally, I'd rather have a nice commercial Honda 21" than spend more money on a cheap rider. It would save tons of room in your garage not to mention it would last much longer if taken care of. I have a 40" Toro Hydro Floating Deck and its awesome but no way I'd drop the $$$ for a 8,000 sqft yard.

a $2000 bobcat exmark or scag that is used without a ton of hours is gonna be way better than the brand new redhawk. It will also have much better resale value. If you buy a near new commercial walk behind belt drive you will be able to sell it in a few years and almost make your money back. Landscapers will be all over buying a homeowner owned commercial mower with low hours. Your redhawk will be a tough sell. I am not saying the redhawk wouldn't work for you but if you look on craigslist I bet you will see mowers in your price range with low hours and in great shape and they will be far superior to the redhawk. Nicer cut for sure, less problems and readily availible parts if it does break. Look on lawnsite and you will see some nice ones.
