A little over 4k sq/ft.

Needs sprayed and killed off and then slit seeded.

Where do you guys come in on something like this?

Yes I am curious as well. How do you bid this? I have had someone ask me something similar to this also.

you will need about 1 gal of round up so id price that at around $50 or so, come around and till it with the harley rake and skid loader so theres $75.00. I would figure in about 20 yards of compost to mix in with the soil, thats 760.00. Harley rake the compost in another $75.00. Seeding it would be about $110 with labor. Then starter fertilizer about $20.00 so between 1000 and 1100 id bid.

How about just slit seeding through the dead grass. Shouldn't that work as a layer of mulch and decompose to help the new seed?

I would do this for about $360. I generally charge around $90/M with spraying, with a thousand sq. ft. minimum. No harley rake necessary, no compost. I slit seed my selected seed into the area, apply my starter fertilizer, and spray it with glyphosate (approx. 4 gallons of mixed solution). Because this spraying is being done as part of the seeding process, it is done for less than spraying for beds, for instance. After it is sprayed, I give the customer watering intructions, and they adhere to them. they will have grass in 2 to 4 weeks, filling in good in 6 weeks.
