Here are a few photos of a customers lawn. We killed the fescue and re-seeded with Lesco Sunstar Bermuda. The lawn was put in during the 2nd week of May, below are a few photos showing the progress.

Don't you hate that?

Now just hope you still get to maintain the lawn for the new owners.

In my experiences, it seems that every time a great client moves the new homeowner comes in with there shiny new craftsman 22 and scalps the hell out of the turf wich I have spent years on getting perfect! It just kills me as I watch the weeds start to invade and my perfect edge grow over the cement!

Hah, i heard that!

I spent a whole summer perfecting a bermuda lawn, i sprayed two times a month, eventually all weeds were gone, then the next summer the yard was never sprayed and the weeds came back:mad:

Nothing wrong with the after pics but, I like the before pics better. Why did they want to switch and do you personally prefer it to fescue?

Great pics. The new bermuda looks great. The one thing about bermuda it will thrive this time of year with the humidity and a little care.

I read in a previous post the owners son was allergic to Fesue, that's why they installed the Bermuda.

I missed the allergic thing, sorry.

No need to be sorry. I had to think again for why this was done.

Kirby, is this lawn irrigated? Which would work best for non irrigated? The reason I ask, I'm going to redo my lawn this fall and don't have irrigation installed. I can and will water when needed. I live on a corner and the lot is 100' x 200'. I plan on using water on the 100 side and about halfway down the 200 because it's basically a field on the other side of my detached garage. I want a lush yard in front and on the side. I thought about using that field to experiment with different grasses. Got any suggestions?

The choice of grass type and hight of cut you plan on using will be the biggest factor in choosing.

Bermuda and Zoysia can be cut shorter in the hot months, but they will not show up as green as Fescue. (I maen cutting Fescue at 4")

If Fescue is maintained correctly (including watering) you can have a lush healthy green lawn when it is really hot out.

Cut hight will be one of the biggest factor in using Fescue, but for the first year or 2. It will require a constant watering practice to insure a great lawn.

Bermuda and Zoysia will probably need less than the Fesue, but wont be green as long but can handle the heat stress much better.

This info may aid in choosing.

This sounds just like some of my sales pitches for complete turf renovation.

Thought I would bring this back up....

It's been a year since I did this job, as stated the people moved. The new owner go my name and asked me to come over and kill the Bermuda and seed it back to fescue.

So, I'll be going tomorrow and killing it and re-seeding it with fescue. This should be good.

It's funny, up here in Michigan we do the opposite. At least we try to do the opposite. Kill the bermuda and zoysia grass, seed with kbg and fescue. Grubs (supposedly) don't like fescue. Bermuda and/or zoysia grass stays mostly brown and dry as straw most of the year here.

:D

Is that KILL and BERMUDA in the same sentence? Yeah this should be good alright. Please keep us posted on the progress. I have some mixed lawns I'd like to get the Bermuda out of.
