I am looking at two mowers and want to make sure I am comparing apples to apples. Here is a breakdown of what I am looking at:

Fas Trak 48'' deck w/ 19 hp Kawasaki - $6,099 new
Hydro-Gear ZT-3100

Scag Freedom Z (Last years model) 48'' deck w/ 19 hp Kawasaki - $5,199 new
Hydro-Gear ZT-2800

I believe both drive systems are the same and that Hydro-Gear just changed the model number. The drive tires are two inches bigger on the Freedom Z and both units have the same size caster tires.

At a glance, both units seem to be very similar. Is there anything that I am missing that would justify paying $900 more for the Fas Trak?

Take a look at the frames, decks, deck lifts etc... Hustler has been building high end residential ZTR's since 2002, not just the last few years like other companies.
The 2800's new model # is the 3100 only in the top end model, I would check with Scag / Hydrogear to make sure it is a 3100.

Hustler has the better warranty on deck, frame, and overall machine, larger fuel capacity, better deck lift system, better engine options, and of course you should always consider your local dealer support.
