:blob3: The impossible has happened.....I'm changing to Stihl......I have been running Shindaiwa T270's since they came out about 10 years ago. I used the new Stihl 250 and fell in love!!!! Instant power that is very impressive......Just bought one today and probably get two more soon. I love Shindaiwa, but time to upgrade!!

I'm thinking about going from the Echo SRM-2601 to the Shindaiwa T-2500, myself.

I haven't heard good things about the t2500. I would go with the t260 if I were you or the t270. Like I said SHindaiwa has been great for me, but time to try something new!!

I will definitely research it and demo and all that stuff. Check out this page I got from an LS member about it. Seems nice so far.

if the stihl 250 is anything like there 350 i would buy the shindaiwa t270.for the difference in the crbs and how you adjust the thottle cable, the 350 uses a walbro ,the shindaiwa uses the jap carb.which is more reliable, the 350 cable adjustment ,you have to slide the cable ahead the shin, has its own adjustment for the cable,my opinion only

I bought a redmax last season.....anyone want to buy a redmax?? :) It's nothing compared to the Shindaiwa and my new Stihl. Its the strato charged 2500 toy.
Cutter i think you would be just changing brands rather than upgradeing, its hard to upgrade from a Shindaiwa-IMPO.....Marks Mowing Service

Any of you guys run Honda trimmers. I've got a umk431 and other than its heavier than my sthil, it does a better job of trimming, doesn't use near the fuel, not as loud and it doesn't smoke. The only thing my Honda doesn't do as well is edge.
Guess its whatever floats your boat.

Redmax BC 2600, only way to go. I have one that is a 97 still runs STRONG, and another one that is 98 and runs strong. I may buy another newer model before the end of the summer. I hear next year all brands will go to 4 cycle. I hate them.

Try www.redmax.com you might be able to find a dealer close to you there.

I picked up a Stihl FS80 a couple of weeks ago. Nice weight, balance and lots of power.

Mark....I'm well aware of Shindaiwa's reputation....I have had over 25 pieces of their equipment, but like I said, the stihl has more power.

So Garrett, is it just the Tim Allen factor causing you to switch brands?

I used a Redmax BCZ2500s the other day. I ran into a sales rep. and he told me to take it and use it for a while. I liked the weight and it had good power but I expected more. I have a Shindaiwa T-25, I think I got it in 1995, I got it in which ever was the last year they made that model. My Shindaiwa has been used commercially since. Other than the Redmax being lighter I found myself wanted my T-25 again. Does anyone know which new Shindaiwa would have comparable power to the T-25. I also like the idea that Shindaiwa has fully machined crankcases, Redmax leaves the mating surfaces as diecast, atleast this is what I was told by Shindaiwa. Thanks
Are all brands switching to 4-stroke next year? I've read that they have been talking about it, but didn't hear that it will happen that soon. If so, I've got to go out a buy a couple new trimmers right away ("next" years models will be coming out soon).

According to the Redmax rep that I talked to he said that most manufacturers were going to be going to a 4 stroke. He said that the 2 stroke models you see will have a catalytic muffler. He stated that Redmax was not going to 4 stroke and that they were going to be the only 2 stroke without catalytic converter. Hope this helps.

When i was at my dealers last week he told me that Redmax is changing next year to a 4 cycle. And that if I wanted to buy a good two cycle this summer is the time to do it. Because he thinks it will take a few years for them to get the 4's down pat. And the Redmax rep was still there when I was.
So who would know what is the case. I suppose time will tell. But if I can afford it I plan to buy another 2 cycle this summer, even tho I do not need another one right now. It will just sit in my shed until I need it.

I may buy a couple more Stihl FS85's and stick back myself. Heck, its a tax write-off. If you don't spend some the gov't will spend it for you anyway.

Justbought first stihl two weeks ago. Fs80 love it. Light and has power. Had shindaiwa but over tens years of use on them it was time for a change. Love the decision I made. Kevin

I think Lanelle got it right. I just like to have the power to cut a tree down if its in my way.

ive got the shin. t260/GREAT! Would u rather have power or reliability? My opinion, i'd choose reliability. I've got a brand new stihl backpack blower that takes about 3 pulls to start. I kno u can't compare apples and oranges though. :blob3:

It should not take 15 pulls to start your trimmer.....Most of my t270's start first or second pull in the morning. You should secure them in your truck. My friend has a box in the front of his bed.....He has a piece of wood around a box to keep the engine from sliding off and on the other bed rail he has a piece of wood notched out for the shaft to rest in so they don't move around. Cheap and good way to store your trimmers.

My friend's brother is getting all new equipment for his golf course and said that they are buying all diesel powered trimmers. They are supposed to last forever (generally speaking). Have any of you seen these yet?

I dont know, I've been running red max for about 6 years now.. And I like other than the fact that they suck up some serious fuel... I tried the stihl and they were heavier then the RM's .. I also looked at the JD's and they seemed alot lighter than both ?? maybe just better balanced for me ? But I think that s the route I'm going... JD's ... ??

I thought the T270 was heavy when I first bought it, then once I got use to it I thought nothing of it.....Same with any other weedeater, just a matter of getting use to the weight and balance. IMO

Redmax hard on fuel????
I am running the BC2600's and they will run for about 45 mins on a tank with heavy working. Like mowing a bank with fairly heavy growth.
But aside from that, they are still the way to go.
