I got to do an estimate on a 100 yard topsoil job. Don't really know what to price it out as. I want to be fair but still get the job and make money. I am going to rent a skid steer which is $250 with trailer for the day. I get 20 yards of topsoil delivered for $400. I usually charge $80 a yard installed but $80X100 yards is 8 grand. I was thinking I would charge $45 a yard installed. What you guys think. Let me know what you guys would price the job out as.

Your going to do that in 1 day?
I would say $50-$55/yrd. Plus equipment rental.

I can move and level a tri axle load of dirt in about a hour with my little compact tractor. A tri axle is about 20 ton, A yard of dirt is roughly 1.5 tons=13.3 yards a load. 100yds /13.3= 7.51.so roughly 8 loads. If you are good with the skid you should be able to move faster than my tractor , but rven if you are equal you got about a 8 hr day.So figure your hourly rate times 8 hrs and get the dirt delevered close to where it needs to be spread. 100yd/20yds per $400 load= 5 loads. 5 loads x $400= $2000+$250 rental=$2250 expense + 8hrs= total, but i would bid it at 10 or 12hrs to leave a little cushion.

if you figure 2250 + $80 (my rate per hour) X 12 hours = 3210. I think i am going to tell the guy 37/ Yard. The topsoil is going to be spread/ graded in the front lawn. So I figure I will need 2 guys to fine level with grading rakes after i do rough level with the track skid i am going to rent. Now my question is do you think you can do this all in one day including fine grading.

I think it can be done in a long day final gradeing and all. How deep are you spreading it? How big of a area? Can they dump it close to where you are spreading it or are you going to have to move the dirt around the proprety with the skid? How good are you on the skid, when i say a can spread a load a hour with my tractor im buy far am not being easy on it. I stay wide open the whole time i think that all depends on you and your help.

I did one similar last year but only 40 yards. Me on the 30hp Kubota with york rake, and 2 guys with grading rakes. The tractor work was over in a couple of hours, but the hand raking took a long time. Still, we were done in 5 hours or so. And I don't do it much, so I'm not too fast with the kubota. A skid steer should be way faster.

I estimated 20 man hours, plus materials, plus a 10% cushion. I think $80/hr is pretty low for 3 guys...or is that just for you?

the 80/hour is just for me.
