This is the earliest I have seen them in bloom here in the upper midwest. South side exposure plus warm soil from building foundations are a good environment for them. I was still quite surprised though.

saw my first one today blooming along the road. that just means more possible calls, i try to avoid that and carry a backpack with some broadleaf in it as we are out mowing ans catch any problem weed between now(just finished rd 1) and rd 2 in about 2 weeks or so.

I had one in the middle of my backyard last week. I called trugreen and they said they'll get right on it.

I have not seen any dandys yet BUT have noticed the grass growth on south exposures. This usually means 2-3 weeks and I'll be MOWIN!

Quackgrass is just beginning to grow here in Des Moines (signs of things to come). Next will be the dandies. Got 3 or 4 weeks to get the pre + fert down, but some new customers will have broadleaf weed issues pretty darn soon. Thinking about pulling out the Shurflo elec backpacks next week. We seldom spray broadleaf weeds here before April 15, but each year is different. We're hitting 70 - 80 degrees this week. Normal high temp = 55.

A week ago, we had snow cover. Now we're getting calls----"How soon will you treat my lawn"?

Don't you just hate that. After 24 hours of warm weather they call and say "How soon are you coming out?"
Sheesh!!

Dang Larry, isn't this just about the truth. Couple weeks ago, I am waiting for ANY ph call to come in. This week, my wife is taking messages for me off the hook for estimates, and 'isn't it about time you come out for Rd 1'? Jeez people, do you know we are still in March??

Quackgrass will probably rear its head here within a couple weeks if the weather trend holds. I hate that stuff, coarse, ugly, bunches of crud grass.

dandies popping like crazy here but the weed of the spring seems to be hairy bittercress here.
