New here... and seeking good advice from professionals who can help me make an educated decision. Not looking for arguments between those that are so brand loyal that they can't be at least a little unbiased.

First of all when it comes to cost I am not against spending the money on the upper tier zero turn mowers out there. I just don't want to spend 10 - 12 grand when I can accomplish the same thing with a 5 - 6 - 8 grand mower and it last just as long. By the way I am pretty meticulous when it comes to the maintenance and up keep for any of my equipment.

I will be cutting approx. 7 acres that are relatively flat a week (between my yard and parents yard) and would like to get it done in 2 - 3 hrs. I assume that I should get a 60" or 61" deck.

The dealers that I have to choose from are all about an hour away and I have SCAG, Gravely, Hustler, Bad Boy, Ex Mark, & JD to choose from.

What are you guys thoughts on brand/size mower, brand/size engine, size of deck, and potential long term fuel costs. Also when is the best time of year to purchase a new mower, I really would like to buy now but could wait if it would benefit me Money wise! I genuinely need advice here and would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance!

your only gonna get biased answers in this forum, occasionaly somone will back it up with numbers, so just get a scag or exmark.

best time to buy is either now or in after fall. always ask about thier demo units , and if they are selling them.

out the door???? Just looked they don't make the mini z which is a commercial unit and have seen plenty go over 2000 hours. I'm not talking about the fastrack or w/e

I've heard good things about Steve's store up in Gainesville. A couple of our clients have said they purchase equipment there.

Hustler makes the Z4 which is the direct replacement for the Mini-Z. Its pumps and wheels motors and full commercial on a compact frame. We have it in 60", 54", and 48" .

Its worth a look. Its a mini-z thats been upgraded. Sold a good number and they have been very popular.

I ve heard Bad Boy mowers are a great deal for the amount of mower you get and I agree. But I have never run one. Same engines and pumps as every other company and if you re just mowing your own place it will last until you have the itch for something new. Just get the suspension seat on whatever mower you decide. Or just get a Ferris if you have a dealer.

I like the Hustler mowers. I always have. If I couldn't get another Dixie for whatever reason I'd look at the Bobcats (not an option for you) or the Hustlers. They are a pretty heavy duty mower and you should be able to find a 27 HP 60" cut for under 8 grand. I know that's a little more than you want to spend but I think it will be worth it. Go and look at them and see what you think. 7 acres can turn into a lot of grass if you're in a hurry to get it done and I just wouldn't be happy with anything under a 60" deck.

For a 7 acre property, I would not consider a mower with less than a 60" deck. In the Atlanta area, Exmark is hands down the favorite mid-mount ZTR. The 60" or 72" deck would make you look forward to cutting. I agree with getting the suspension seat.
