Haven't studied my woody plants yet! This summer I'll be learning all my trees and other woody plants, but until then, what is this? "It has pink blooms", my customer says.
It looks to be some type of cherry. Peel the bark back on the twig and give it a sniff. If it smells like almond extract, it is a cherry (but still could be a cherry if it does not).

Is that what it looks like now? Bark looks like a Kwanzan Cherry and they are popular in our area. They will leaf-out then bloom.

Possibly an 'Okame' cherry but the tree looks bigger than most okame it is very pink and blooms early. It has the size of a Yoshino but they tend to be pinkish white. Definately a prunus through.
