View Full Version : Which trimmer?

I have tried searching but found very little info on the Swisher E4-S4000. I am considering either the Swisher or a Husqvarna 326LS. Currently most work is on a 1/2 acre but will be moving up to 5-10 at some point. I like the weight of the Husqvarna but the Swisher has a Shindaiwa motor, which I understand to be pretty good. Does anyone have experience with the Swisher or know how these two compare? I can get the Swisher for just under $300 and the Husqvarna for just over $300.

I just Googled Swisher and they look like carbon copies of Shindaiwa.

They are made by Shindaiwa. Some agreement made in 2007 if I recall correctly. Are the hybrid motors good?

I just ran a dealer search within 100 miles of my zip code ... "no dealers available." :D

Guess I am in luck, I have about 15 within 100 miles and one about 15 miles away. Same dealer as the Husqvarna though so I am still not any closer to making a decision.

Let me guess: you have no Shindaiwa dealers in your area?

I have a Shindaiwa dealer about 25 miles away. Was just in there looking at the Stihl 90 and 110 today. The Swisher was attractive because it is a Shindaiwa motor for alot less than the Shindaiwa trimmer. I thought I was going to get it but then I noticed a lot of support for the Husqvarna 326LS. It is noticeably lighter than the Stihl or Shindaiwa, but I will sacrifice a little weight if it gets me a more durable trimmer.

I've got it figured out now: those Swisher's are Shindaiwa T2510's and T3410's with red covers. :D

This trimmer is in stock at Costco for $249. The stick edger is also there for same price. Seems like every spring Costco will strike a deal to carry a trimmer. A couple of years ago they had a nice Kaw trimmer for sale.

Costco is where I was planning on getting the Swisher. I just wasn't sure how it would compare to the Husqvarna.

So what's the word on swisher trimmer? My local Costco have them. It has shinny E4 motor, but I'm curious if the rest of trimmer is good. I can get the redmax tr2350 for $230.
I've got a husqvarna 326rjx & its been good to me.

We had talked about the C4 engines in T2510 and T3410, they are quite reliable, no valve issue or any issue that I know of. Those 25cc and 34cc C4 engines have been out for many years already, it is not as if they are new and untested.

$249 for a Shindaiwa T2510, it is a darn good price. I bet you can't get the Husky 326 for that price at all.

The Costco here has the hedge trimmer and string trimmer (both Swisher / Shindaiwa) for $199 each.

I bought both this week, good deal for me (homeowner, not in the business).

the Swisher name brand out here stands for home-owner crap...

my buddy has a brush hog from them and the thing is horrid.

I would pick the Husqvarna (who happens to own the best trimmer name around in REDMAX) in a heartbeat over the Swisher.

Now I have Shindy stuff that I like...but I've never heard of any type of relationship with Shindaiwa other than with Echo products, and that a very recent thing.

O, and btw...I don't recommend anything lawn from a box store like costco, or northern tools. Buy from a local commercial dealer.

These swishers are relabeled Shindaiwas.

This is the trimmer at Amazon (for $491, yikes!).

Where do you live Capnrob? My nearest Costco near Nashville, TN carries the edger but, not the trimmer.

The box even says Shindaiwa on it.

I actually had to take this one back for a new one, it refused to start, the hedge trimmer started right up (fresh 89 octane gas, echo oil).

Here is a couple pics of the string trimmer, the engine on the hedge trimmer is identical.

I was on the Swisher site, watch for the 34cc trimmer and the 34cc hand held blowers. Those are about $430 and $279 resp if you get the Shindy brand. The hand held blower is the biggest engine of all hand held at 34cc. I have one. I am not going to say it is mighty strong since it is only 34cc. But I can imagin how weak the other sub 30cc are.

As for 34cc trimmer, only Stihl FS130 and Honda HHT35S can compare.

I'd buy one for $200 if there were some local to me. I wonder if Costco will ship to a store that doesn't normally carry them.

I just e-mailed Costco to ask if they will ship one of those trimmer to my local Costco but, I'm not too hopeful about it. Heck, I'd just about buy 2 of them for $199 a piece. I wish they weren't so bulky or I'd ask CapnRob to buy me one and ship it.

Ever since this thread came up, I want to hit my local Costco and get the trimmer and edger. We are in Costco at least once a week and everytime I walk by the display I want to buy them. The stick edger has 1.1HP engine, which is stronger than my Echo. If I bought the trimmer, it could be my back up. I don't care what people say about buying equipment at box stores, these items are a good deal. My dealer could not come close to the price point on similar items. Also, Costco has the best return policy for its' members in the retail industry. I wish they carried ZTs and WB mowers.

You make me jeolous!!! I so much want to get the E4 hedge trimmer for lower price. I even went on the Costco site trying to order it and can't.

I was wrong earlier when I posted the hedge trimmer has the same engine as the string trimmer.

It looks like the hedge trimmer engine is a little smaller.

Also, I was at Northern Tool yesterday.

They had some refurbished Swisher E4 string trimmers for sale.

For $300+ (yikes!)

They must be getting the returns from Costco, I don't know who else would have the volume of returns to keep Northern Tool stocked with refurbs.

The hedge trimmer use the 24.5cc E4 engine like the 2510 of Shindy.

Nortern tool is very expensive, I don't even check on their stuff. Those online sales are not necessary cheaper. I see dealer price lower than them. The brand that is worth buying online are Tanaka and Kawasaki.

I have been checking on the price of Swisher all over the place, nothing cheap.

Raced out to Costco and picked up an E4-S4000 string trimmer. 34CC E4 engine with a solid drive shaft. I have a couple of other Shindaiwa pieces, and this sure looks like the real stuff with Swisher's name on it.

Stopped by the local Shin dealer on the way home, $419.

I will be in heaven if I can put the articulating blade from my AHS2510 on this long reach beast.

What hedge trimmer and blower are people seeing? I haven't seen any hedge trimmers out this way and the only blower I've seen is a hand held.
