looking at the scag couger any body know anything about them
i like the center discharge any comments please I'M BYING A ZTR AND SO FAR I AM SET THE SCAG
i can highly recommend the lazer by exmark.just hard to beat it.
Not to down SCAG anymore than it needs to be, but....
IF I were going to buy a Small bagging front mount mower, it would probably be a .....gulp.....Walker. (There, I said it :( )
The only thing the Cougar may have on the Walker is their 52" bagging deck, and maybe some more groundspeed, and an overall larger/heavier package.
I don't usually consider front mounts to be what we call a "ZTR". Yes they can turn a zero turn, but they are usually much longer than they are wide, and therefore aren't usually as maneuverable as a ZTR.
Good Luck

IS THE COUGAR 48" CONSIDERED SMALL? IT CUT PRETTY FAST
PLUS YOU COULD GET NEXT TO FLOWER BEDS ON EITHER SIDE
UNLIKE SIDE DISCHARGE

If you want a bagging mower, only way to go is the Walker.
Other than that, eXmark only!!:blob4:

WHY IS THE WALKER SO GOOD FOR BAGGING?
Well in its class, the Cougar is probably one of the bigger front mount baggers. 48" and their 52" rear discharging into the bagging impeller are pretty big too. Many Walkers are 36-48".
As for its size compared to ZTR's, yes its on the small size. With the most popular ZTR size being the 60" class, and next being the 72" size.
If all your doing is bagging, the Walker/Cougar are pretty good units. Pretty expensive compared to larger regular ZTR's.

Their have been some threads in the past that described what a poor machine that Skag is. It has had many problems with performance and reliability in the past. I do not know if Scag has got all the problems solved, as no one has mentioned ot in the last several months. If you want a smaller ZTR that bags, get the Walker. There is no serious compition to the Walker. Also, Walker has many deck options so you can bag, mulch, or side discharge, all with the same power unit. The deck on a Walker can be swapped out in about 10 min.:)
If all your worried about is trimming on both sides, and your NOT interested in bagging, then go with a true ZTR.
If you need to bag, get the Walker or your Cougar.
Yes the Walker is center discharge into an impeller just like the Cougar. They both also side discharge. The Cougar can side discharge with the same deck, the Walker has a plethora of different decks from 36" to 74".
Try spending some time on both of their websites.

THANKS FOR ALL THE REPLYS !!! HOW DOES EVERONE THINK WALKER AND SKAG COMPARE? TO SIDE DISCHARGE WITH THE WALKER YOU HAVE TO CHANGE DECKS IS THAT CORRECT? BECAUSE TO ME THE SKAG WOULD BE THE BETTER CHOICE IN THAT CASE IS THAT CORRECT?
If your going to be bagging, get a Walker.
If your NOT going to be bagging get an Exmark Lazer ZTR with a mulching kit. Trim on both sides, and MUCH cheaper and more maneuverable.
The Cougar isn't all that "popular" of a mower, here or in "real life" ;)
Given the choice between Walker and Cougar.....Walker. BUT....Thats ONLY if I'm going to bag, for there are much more efficient mowers out there for non bagging use.

ALSO WHEN EVER BAGGING IS BROUGHT UP WITH MID MOUNT (ZTR'S) THEY SEEM TO BRUSH IT OFF, THAT IS WHY I'M PUSHING TOWARDS THE COUGER , THATS SEEMS TO BE WHAT ITS MADE FOR
ANY COMMENTS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRIECIATTED
WE brush off bagging for one reason.....WHO WANTS TO DO IT!!!
If your stuck on bagging, my choices would be...
1) Walker
THEN
2) Cougar
How much is the Cougar running with the 48" deck that you demoed?
P.S. - Your CAPS LOCK is STUCK ON!!!!

zeblowe,
I STRONGLY suggest you use the search feature and do a search on the word "cougar". I would be surprised if you will still want one after reading the info members have provided over the past year or so.:)
Walkers have the 26hp EFI Kohler as their most powerful.
Not a bad price for the Cougar. Thats a lot of Hp/"
Buy what you want, I already told you my thoughts.
If your on lawns small enough to bag, then the Walker is my choice.
There are many more choices out there if you get away from the bagging stigma.

Hey, how well does your Lazer Z mulch? How high can the grass get before it becomes a problem? I might consider modyfying mine to mulch if I move to another market where lawns and tiny and there is no tall fescue to deal with.
