Grounds Master's 325-D, 328-D & 7210 ZTR. I also use the same oil in my Model 1910 Ford Tractor & JD Gator. All recommend 30 weight oil. Check your owners manual for your equipment manufacturer's oil recommendations. The only reason I use multi weight oil in diesels, is for ease of starting. All my Gasser's get straight 30 weight in the summer.

This is the manual on scags website and no where does it say about the weight or what type to use. It does say what weight for the hydros. This is why i posted.

Scag didnt make the engine. You would need your engine manual.

Scag does not make half the parts on the mower. But it still tells about the hydro oil. B&S did not make the engine either. I can not find a manual on the engine. That is why i am posting this.
Anybody else? Weight and Brand.
Thanks, Ron

I have been running and maintaining Diesel Engines, since 1968 when I was a Generator mechanic in the army. The heaviest engine oil I have ever used is 30 weight. Busted tires and Lubed trucks at the Triple T truck stop, on I-10 in Tucson. All 30 weight.

Just be sure the oil is specific to Diesel Engines.

I have the same engine in my Gravely272. Its a Diahatsu turbo diesel. The owners manual says use CF or CF-4 oil and a capacity of 3.5 quarts. I use the Kohler oil in the grey plastic bottle. The manual says multigrades from -5 degrees to 110 degrees , use 10w-30 , 10w-40 , or 10w-50. The Kohler oil is the only diesel oil that I've found to meet these viscosity requirments.

Well then who did make your engine? Some info on the engine would help in finding what oil the engine manufacturer recommends.

Scag tells you about the hydro oil because the hydro system is warrantied by them. The engine is not nor are parts available for the engine from scag. They come from the engine manufacturer.
