The machine-52 inch Hustler super mini z model 927-533-engine kohler 27hp cv740 450 hrs. 2006 model.

Location-Carbondale, CO. elevation 6000 ft.

The scenario- Last winter I put the machine away and drained all gas per manual instructions.(never done this before usually top it off and stabilize). This spring put fresh gas in and tried to start machine. Initially it started cranking for 10-15 seconds and almost turned over. Gave it a break, turned the key again and all I get now is a "click". New plugs, new battery. Still a "click". Pulled the starter out and tested it and it seems fine. Put it back in. Still just a strong "click". Is it possible that I trashed the starter, and it works when I test it out of the machine, but won't work under load when it's connected back to the machine? Any other advice on what the root of the probelm might be would be greatly appreciated. This is the first time I've had even a hint of a problem with this machine.-thanks-Jeff Maybon

From the testing you have already done I think you need a starter assist kit, Hustler part number 107910.
This kit is designed to give the starter solenoid exciter wire full voltage to fully engage the starter solenoid.
You can order this kit at any Hustler dealer.

Sounds stupid but I have been there. Did you possibly turn the blades on by accident. That will not let it start and make a clicking sound.
