Is it safe to use the same formula that we use to figure mulch to figure rock and gravel?I have an area about 350 by 3.5 feet to dig out and gravel with 3 in and under rock.I plan to put it about 2.5 inches deep.

350ft/3.5ft at 2.5 inches deep is about 9.5 yards, i would get 10 to be safe. Mulch is more fluffy and covers more ground, i usually add a little extra with gravel

Not only does mulch fluff to cover more ground, gravel goes the other way by needing to be compacted so you always need to order more than your calculation since you're calculating "compacted volume"

I'm using bigger rock not gravel.

Rock that small is classified as gravel.

Rock that measures 2.5 to 10 inches in diameter is classified as cobbles.
