It is in a rye/blue lawn shady area...I beleive its fescue...any opinions? It is a little lighter green now than surrounding turf and grows faster. Will it darken after spring? Location, Long Island New York.

If it is tall fescue--it will have very pronounced veins in the leaves--like ridges--and it will usually grow in dense clumps. It also has tiny invisible barbs on the edges of the leaf blades, (you can feel them).
Annual rye is lighter green, taller due to fast growth, with a slightly wider blade. The back of the leaf blade is shiny or glossy. The auricles are long and clasping. It is often red at the soil line. If you can find a seed head--that will help identify it.
