Took delivery of my 2010 Hustler Sport about a week and a half ago. I went with the Sport 42" with a Honda engine, upgraded seat (probably the best upgrade I did), Hour meter, mulch kit, Gator blades (on the mower right now), mulching blades (dealer made a mistake and installed these instead of the Gator blades so these are spares), homemade striping kit and homemade steering extenders. So far I love this mower with no complaints.
I would suggest that if anybody is on the fence about purchasing a Sport, go for it!! You will not be disappointed.....

Few pix of the Sport on the trailer. I will take some better pix later this week when the weather gets better. Remind me to snap some pix of the striper I made. Enjoy.....

;) I guess you can't post the same pix in different threads. Anyways, go here to see pix http://www.lawnsite.com/showthread.php?t=314253
I will post more later when the weather gets better around my parts. We got rain the last few days and want to let it dry up a tad before pulling the Sporto out to cut...

That's my Sporto :)
I will post more later his week. I will be sure to get pix of the striper I made. Not sure if I'm going to keep it installed since the mower already lays down some nice stripes...

A few more pix with my cruddy cell camera. Sorry they are kind of blurry..... The striper works great, but like I mentioned, Sporto does a great job striping without it so I might just remove it......Enjoy...:dancing:

Is that striper from your old Mini FasTrak?

I think the MFT had a striper made out of chains. This striper was made for the JD ZTR that I just pawned off on my brother in law. I know it wasn't on the MFT because the striper use to be JD green and I painted it yellow this past weekend. Can't have that nasty JD green bring down the value of the Sporto :) I actually gave my brother in law the remaining JD green spray paint when I sold the ZTR to him......I bleed Hustler yellow once again :cool2:

I LIKE IT!!! More info on your striping kit... You said this is from your old JD, but did you originally buy this kit from Deere and if so how much modification did you make? If you have less than $300 in this we could sell a bunch of these on many models. There is currently no stripe kit for the Sport available from Hustler, but there is a market for one.

Hmm, sounds like you want to take money out of my pockets with that statement payup
This was not a pre-fabbed kit bought from JD. I actually made this kit with odds and ends in my garage plus a few parts purchased from the local hardware store. Fairly easy if you have basic hand tools. I am in the process of writting up a list of parts along with construction details. Stay tuned...

Allright, back in the Hustler Seat again. I looking at upgrading to a larger unit at the end of the summer. I need a better vac system for all my fall clean ups.

Made this striper for my 48" hustler. Cost me about $24 or so. Cost was for used mud flap and some bolts, had the other parts laying around. No drilling required as I used existing bolts to attach to. Going to upgrade to some conveyor belt when my friend gets it for me.

Laxman, that looks liek a nice setup. I am trying to "engineer" a way to mount the roller to the back of the deck without drilling. We will see what I can come up with...

That looks like an oil pressure indicator there? Is it? I wonder if the Honda models get that as the website doesn't show it with the other engine.

You are correct, the Honda engine option has a low oil pressure switch in the engine, so we do install the light in the dash, the Briggs engines we use dont offer this option.

Well that's cool. I want a Hustler 42" w/Honda bad. I just can't find a dealer that stocks one near me. I want to see one in person and drive it. I called 5 dealers yesterday and got some interesting answers:
Dealer #1: "We just sold our last Sport this week. I won't order a shipment unless I get a few more buyers....because it costs me $150 every shipment no matter the quantity and don't want to unless I have 3+ *orders*. Also we don't order the Honda model, don't like it. It has a timing belt which breaks all the time and Honda will blame you the owner saying you did something to break it. We won't order the 42" Briggs EITHER because the filter is crap. The 48" has a Briggs with an 'acceptable' filter." :(
Dealer #2: "I have a 42" Briggs in stock and won't order any more because I have to order $30k worth from Hustler minimum and they just aren't moving this year."
I'm going to try my closest dealer on Tuesday...he's been closed every time I've tried to go by there and so far all I see is Kubota's from the fence/gate entrance. :(
Should I be concerned about the HP/TQ of the Honda? The competition seems to have higher HP engines. Please assure me that maybe what the competition has is either overkill or because the lack of engineering they need that much power to compete.

The Honda engine has been flawless and performs great, we have no complaints of lack of hp or torque.
If you can find a Honda powered Sport it is likely due to availability from the factory, we cant make them fast enough.
Email me if you dont find one and I will see what I can do for you to locate one.

I wouldny put much trust in advertised specs. Heck theres that class action lawsuit about just that problem, manufacturers overstating the performance of their engines.
Having said that.....In thick, overgrown grass would the Honda push a 48" deck without a problem or is that a bit much to ask of the machine? Would the Honda be a better fit on the 42" deck?

Can anyone elaborate on this.
I didn't know Honda changed their design.

Ground speed and engine rpm will make the difference, in the heavier stuff you just need to make sure the engine is at full throttle and you are going the appropriate speed.

This engine design has been around many years, we have been using is on our Mini Fastrak for a while.
This particular series of engine is a over head cam, so it does use a timing belt to run the OHC.

An update on the honda quality. We have sold over 35 of the honda sport mowers and just had our first one come in last week with a coil out. The owner leaves it sit ouside in the rain. Put a new coil on it and runs like new. And as far as the briggs have sold over 40 of these and still not one briggs come back yet.

Yeah well I think I've changed my mind and focused on trying to find a used Mini Z 42" with a Kawasaki 19HP. Those look to be a better value to me than a new Sport, and for just a little more if any.

Thanks for the info. I have been very happy with the Briggs.
