View Full Version : Noticeable difference?

I'm trying to decide what to buy to mow two acres around my house. Ive got two trees to mow around, and the rest is wide pretty wide open. I can't find mowing speeds on the lawn tractors I've been looking at, usually they're around 24-27hp. The zero turns I've been looking at are around 20-23hp. If both had the same size mowing deck which would you buy? Would there be much of a difference?

if you only have 2 trees then there really isnt a NEED for a zero turn. if theres open area to turn around then a tractor will be fine. a zero turn is basically a luxury. what machines are you comparing?

First off sorry for posting a "homeowner" question in the "pro" section. I just now realized there was a differnce in where i should have posted. Anyway, thanks for the reply. I was originally looking at ZTRs for around $3k . Then someone mentioned at work they hired out their mowing and wanted to sell a lawn tractor. It's a one year old Husq. 2748gls he used on two acres. I guess the big question is for my two acres am i going to see a big difference in time mowing? Would i be better off buying a lower end lawn tractor around $1500-$2000?
The ZTR's I've been looking at are:
Toro tim cutters (z4235 and z5035

For 2 acres and only 2 trees to mow around, I second the tractor. There is alot more that can go wrong with a cheap ZT than a tractor. Also a tractor can be used for other tasks such as plowing and hauling around a dump cart. For personal use only, a tractor is a much more versatile machine for maintaining a couple of acres.
