I am about to purchase a new trailer to haul my 52in WB and am wondering if a dove tail trailer has any benefits or issues over a normal trailer. I am mulching and mowing out of the trailer and need some advice ASAP. Thanks

I have a 18 ft trailer with a dove tail. Love it. Makes loading very nice, the angle on the gate is minimal. Eliminates deck scraping on and off. Its actually a skidloader trailer I had built with a gate and side rails. It has 12k axles. Never have problems with shackles and stuff like that. Hauling mowers is nothing for this trailer. The only thing that sucks is with a dovetail you lose two feet of FLAT deck space.

Can you store your mower on the slant at the back of the trailer?
I am looking at a 6x12 or 6x14 single axle and dont want to lose any benefits by getting the dovetail.....you know?

I don't have a dovetail trailer but I have seen people who do and they will use the dovetail when they have stuff on the trailer. Sure, you can put the front wheels of a mower on the dovetail while transporting, theres nothing wrong with that. I obviously wouldn't suggest storing a 21" mower sideways.

I'd love to have a dovetail, nicer loading angle.

I have two lasers on mine, the back one, the bags for the ultra vac hang over the dovetail.

used to pull a 10 or 12 foot single axle dove tail at my last job. If you pulled out of a parking lot with an incline the back would drag. so backing up some customers' driveways was not possible

I bought a 20ft. car hauler and put a gate on the back, added some 2x8 treated side boards.. Like mentioned above, good loading angle and I can knock the gate off in 5 min to haul a skid or compact tractor..
