I understand that the brochure is not completely accurate for added features or differences when you go from the Performance to the High Performance series. For example the brochure shows a different tire type and size on the two 52" models.
Can you get an engineer to tell you the specific difference in these two 52" models 74903 and 74923. I know there is an engine difference and the better one has struts vs. chain for the deck and the tools free baffle lock but what other differences if any are there to justify the price difference?
Thanks,

CincyWolf -
We're not exactly sure what you mean by the statement "the brochure is not completely accurate for added features and differences between Performance and High Performance series. We reviewed the catalog specs (pg. 30/31) and the following differentiation is called out:
1. Engine - Kohler 25hp vs. Kawasaki 27hp 2. Heavy-Duty Canister Air Cleaner - Optional on 74903 vs. standard on 74923 3. Drive Tire Tread - Turf Master vs. Multi-Trac (engineering tests indicate Multi-Trac provide improved traction and retain less dirt/grass). No difference in size.
4. Greasable Spindle Bearings - Ball bearings (74903) vs. Tapered bearings (74923) 5. TURBOFORCE Adjustable Baffle - 74903 adjustment requires loosening and refastening hardware whereas 74923 is tools free utilizing a cam lock lever 6. Deck Hanger System - 74903 utilizes chains vs. 74923 utilizes solid links.
Hope this information is useful.

Thanks for the response.
I'm waiting on a 74923 to come in. The dealer was told by Toro that it would not be available until May 12. The dealer also said that other than size, all the G3s have the same Turf Master tire tread vs. the Multi Trac. They even called their Toro rep and he told them them they had not seen any - at least lately - with the Multi Trac tread. The rep is who told the dealer the brochure had some misses.
I guess I'll wait until my machine is delivered and see what kind of tires are on it.

I see 2 different tire sizes listed for the 52" G3 performance mowers for 2011 year. Website specs call out 24" x 9.5"-12" Brochure (page 32) calls out 23" x 9.5" - 12" Anyone know which is correct?

I just picked up a brand new 2011 model G3 High Performance 52" with the 27hp KAW. It came with the 24 x 9.5 - 12" Is it possible it got the wrong wheels installed?

Dalt,
There is also an engine difference; 74903 has a 25hp Kohler, the 74923 has a 27hp Kawasaki.

dalt1 - let me know if you have an oil plug leak. I have the same mower as you (2010) model and the oil plug leaked. It appears to be the wrong plug because the o-ring does not touch the seat. I had to purchase a gasket that it is not designed to use to get it to stop leaking. Toro dealer wouldn't do anything even though I showed them two Kaw FX engines on their showroom floor that were also seeping oil. Hopefully Kaw has fixed this obvious defect.
Other than that I like the mower. Agree the brochure was wrong on the tires.

I noticed leaks on models on floor models (2010 models)at dealer and brought up concern. Dealer confirmed bad seals and said it had been fixed on 2011 models. Mine does not leak being a 2011. I like the mower but it rides considerably rougher than my old 2001 Exmark. I had the suspension seat on it, Now considering buying it for this one.

How is that not covered under warranty?

It was covered by Kawasaki but the hassle of taking the mower back to the shop made it simpler to purchase a gasket and fix it myself at the 5 hour oil change. They never acknowledged there was a problem so I just imagined taking it in, them keeping it for days or weeks and then having them say there was nothing wrong. If they are admitting an issue with those FX engines now maybe I'll go back and see if they have a new plug kit that works.
