I just rebuilt a pump and motor on my Super Z. One of the dampeners is broken and I really don't want to spend $90 more dollars if I can help it. Can removal of the dampeners cause any problems with the hydros, like pressure spikes from jerky stick movement? I know some Dixie Choppers don't have them so I assume it wouldn't hurt, but after $500 in parts I don't want to assume too much.

Thats why you blew your pump.Without dampner, you're spiking your pump PSI to upwards of 4000 . This was toldto me by a Hydro-Gear engineer.

You can spike your hydro pressures without dampeners or worn out dampeners, this is likely to happen especially when making turns on pavement or on surfaces where your tires cant slip.
I would put the $ into the new dampener, especially after putting the money into the hydro repair.

I'll go ahead and order a replacement, but ironically the side that blew had the working dampner on it.
