I have a toro z master with a 23 koehler. Any clue why I am scalping almost all of my lawns... I have it set at 3.5 height and run it a 60% or so. Tires are a okay but could use new ones soon.

PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

60% speed or 60% engine throttle? its probably the ground itself... do other mowers scalp it? and how wide is the deck?

are your yards flat or bumpy? bumpy would explain scalping.

The one in particular is on a slope. The deck is 60" and I use it full throttle and only 60% speed but when on the slope I just creep by at a walk

Check your tire pressures. If they are low, the downhill side will drop and cause an uneven cut. Make sure they are up to par with the manufactures standard in your manual. Assuming everything else is alright, that would be the most logical reasoning I can see. Also depending on how you use it, spinning a 60" deck around on turns and such could easily be enough to cause some inertia and weight transfer causing one side to dip and scalp.

Best of luck!

Check your side to side deck level. If it's scalping, or cutting lower when you turn one direction and it's more noticable on a slope, sounds like that may be the issue. My 61" grasshopper was a little over 1/2 inch out of level. Sounds like a lot, but it was barely noticable in the open areas, only when I turned one way did it cut really poorly. Leveled the deck and not it cuts laser smooth and level.

are your deck rollers in good shape? Have you parked it on a level surface and measured the distance between all the blade tips and the ground?
