It's time to upgrade/update one of our snow/mowing trucks and am curious who here is running a 2000 or newer 4wd gm truck with 5.3 or 4.8 motors? This small truck will be pulling a small 6x12 or 7x12 trailer with a couple walkbehinds mostly and will do some occasional residential snow removal.

What kind of mileage are those of you who acutally have that kind of truck getting? I'm expecting mileage to be somewhere around 10-12mpg? Sorry I'm not interested in what your s10, ranger, CTD, or other trucks get

My brother has a 2004 Z71 ext cab short box 4x4 with 5.3 and not towing with mixed city and highway 14mpg on a good day.... I would say you are pretty close with 10-12mpg you could expect depending on how you drive..

towing a 16' enclosed trailer with all that you get 14mpg? :dizzy: how many miles do you get to a tank towing?

I get more towards the 12 mpg I get about 230 mile per tank full and about 300 on a long trip empty but I drive like a grandpa when pulling the trailer. When I went to Alabama I was getting 17 mpg's on the highway

are you sure you know how to calculate your fuel mileage? 230 miles to a tank using 23 gallons or fuel which is about what you would be putting in that truck on empty is 10 mpg...??

Yea, its gotta be lower than 14mpg towing an enclosed. My 2wd got 15 unloaded and 12 towing an open 12 foot single axle, one 48" ZTR and handhelds....

I get 500 mile on a tank in my 2000 4.3 silverado. I know your talking about v8s but why skip the v6?

Uh yeah I know how and just for the record I never run my truck empty, I put 21 gal. in my truck Monday and now its friday...I have 150.9 miles on my trip meter and my fuel gauge is just below the 3/4 mark, now if I were to run my truck till the tank was empty then I may be pushing the 14 mpg. I wish I could take a picture of my odometer so you could see, anyway hope this helps the guy that started the thread.

well 21 gal to 230 miles is 10.95 mpg... and i don't understand what you mean by if you ran your truck till your tank was empty you would be pushing 14mpg? it makes no difference in fuel mileage at what point you fill up the tank..
