My predicament is that the only dealers in my area are Deere, Hustler and Husqvarna. Now I am currently using a Deere L130 48" rider and want to get things done faster and that mower has now 300 hours on it. I was looking at the three units below. I mow about 1.5 acres with all flat mowing and 4 trees :)

1. Deere EZtrak Z465 61" with 25HP Kawasaki engine. $5,699
2. Husqvarna MZ6128ZT 61" with 28HP B&S engine. $4,999
3. Bad Boy CZT 60 60" with 23HP vanguard engine. $5,899

Now the deere dealer is also a hustler dealer in town but don't know prices. The closest Bad Boy dealer is about 100 miles away. If you have any other suggestions in this price range let me know your thoughts.

Have you considered a used Exmark or Scag? I just bought a 1.5 yr old Exmark Lazer Z HP 52" 23HP with 149 hours on it for less than $4K. I looked for about a month before I found this one, but I found a lot of others that were good deals as well.

Around here $4k used gets you an Exmark Lazer Z with about 1000 hours on it.

Ya....this one took a little while to find. I demo'd a Ferris 1500Z and the 500Z. I got the 1500Z down to $6200 and quite a bit less for the 500Z. Nice mowers.

What about a Gravely? I have 2 friends that bought the 44z for around 5k out the door. It is simply built and has a strong deck. I believe both of them have a 19 horse Kawasaki motor.

again, no dealer around other than Deere, Hustler, and Husqvarna. I am not sure if this means a whole lot to homeowners or not.

Its always nice to have a dealer close. My father-in-law had to drive 30 minutes one way when he had to get parts for his old CC. I was looking at the EZTraks myself this year before I spent the extra and got one of their commercial mowers.

JD EZtrak z445 with the 54" High capacity deck is what I'd look at. It gives you the most HP per inch of deck and the better 4-point deck mounting/lift system.

The wheel motor brackets on the deere's are the weak points on them, Take them off before you even go beat on it and weld the back sides. The larger tires on the Z465 will rip them appart quicker.

That Mz is not a bad machine, there are guys here using them comercially. I started out with the ez a step below the mz and it hasnt let me down after 4 years of abuse.
after that ez and all my husqvarana hand helds that have never let me down i have become a big husqvarna fan. The only thing I dont like about it has the B&s on it and the deere has the Kawi.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a particular brand just because they had a dealer close to me. Research and buy the one you like best, but...for the average homeowner, any of the choices you mentioned will be more than enough for the rest of your lifetime.

With only 1.5 acres I think I would look at a smaller deck. I cut about 2.5 acres weekly and I went with an Exmark Quest sp with a 44 inch deck. It's still a fast cut but I only have 2 blades to sharpen or replace, one less spindle, it just seems more cost effective to me.

Check out a Hustler Fastrak or Hustler Fastrak Super Duty. Demo and you'll see why so many have chosen these mowers.

You certainly got a bargain with that one. Congratulations! Would you mind sharing with us what your search procedure is? I don't ever recall seeing a buy like that in the Lawnsite equipment-for-sale forum nor in any Craigslist ad in my state. And I'd expect a dealer would have wanted a thousand or two more if he had one available for sale, which seems very unlikely.

I use searchtempest.com to search Craigslists all around me, but this one was 20 minutes from my home. It had been on there for nearly a month with no bites when I found it and bought it.

The dealer here said he'd ask at least $5500 for it. I feel like it was a very good deal.

The listing is still there, but the mower is in my garage!

well I ended up scooping up a John Deere 737 54" commercial ztr with 80 hours on it on craigslist. It's been great so far and in immaculate shape.

bigdessert ,

I have 1.5 acres to mow and have a nearby dealer that carries, Scag, Hustler and Husqvarna. I chose the Hustler Sport 42" because it is what best fit my needs and because the dealer was close. I looked into others and since the dealers were 20 miles or further away stayed local. Just my opinion.
