I know a guy who does chirogentics on metal. It is supposed to work pretty good, but i have not tried it. If you like I could try to get in touch with him and see if he could help you out. He would probably appreciate the opportunity.:blob2:

Usually I resharpen the blades every 10 hours of operation. It will make resharpening alot easier and keep the lawns looking good!

WOW, what height are you mowing at? 1" Why such short times?

I can get anywhere from 12-15hrs to sometimes a full week (depending on the debris hit!) and how lazy I get. When I take them off, they are still WAY sharper than any other local LCO's that I see mowing!!! My blades on my SCAG have been on there since the end of MAY!!!! I've only put a little over 30hrs on it this season though!

I have six sets for 36". Sharpen all on Sat. or Sun. Mow 3 to 5 yards each day M-F (3-4 Hours Day)and put sharp blades on every evening when I get home.
Change blade on 21" trim mower once a week.

I have several sets of blades. Put a sharp set on anywhere from everyday to 3 times a week depending on how much we cut. Actual cut time of about 6-8 hours. Nicer cut, better speed, and easier on mower and motor with sharp blades.

a whole lot of this depends on the type lawns u are cutting and the conditions at cutting time. now im just getting tips
if i do anything. aint nothing to dull the blade but the dust u stir up. i know yaw know all this ,but i throwed it in anyway.

I sharpen every 10 hours in the growing seasons, and 15- 20 hours otherwise.

We change blades every 1 - 2 days depending on the season and number of hours cutting.

Like Hoss said, the sharper the blade, the better the time you can make cutting.

And time is $$$

We're doing it daily. We take care of the largest construction/mining operation in Southern Minnesota and all the dust from the trucks, along with gravel from the roads, end up in the grass and dulls blades at a staggering rate. So, everyday before we start, it's up in the air with the electric hoist, grab the air ratchet with the 15/16 socket, and start changin :D

I change blades daily on main mower, after every 3-4 jobs for the weed mower.

07-12-2002, 08:57 PM
Everyday for me.:D

Bob Minney keeps changing his logo, wheres the twirling bird?

I used to change everyother day, but like the better results with daily sharpenings, as stated the sharpening process is much easier when the blades come off after a day.

I met a guy at a gas station who had a set of them and didn't like them. He said little hunks kept breaking out of the edge.
You may want to research them before laying out the big cash for tungsten carbide blades.

We change every 2-3 days but at the most 25hrs.

07-13-2002, 09:33 AM
Every day.

07-13-2002, 09:42 AM
Daily. In the summer I might stretch it to two days at the most.

07-13-2002, 10:20 AM
I resharpen every 15 hours of operation, sometimes every other day depending what the conditions are.

LGF---What kind of blade sharpener do you use?
