I planted a row of 4-5" caliper pears and am mostly concerned about over watering. Should I be watering everyday for a while or is that too much?

Get a moisture probe that is about 10" in length. They are cheap.

keep it at about 4-7 or in the green.

check several spots around base of transplant.

Those are big trees. That must have been 60"+ root balls.

Good call on the probe. Those things take the guesswork out of watering.

I shoot for a good soaking once every two to three days. I think the key is though is the hole you dug and making sure that the bottom of the hole isn't a hardpan.

Yes, they were huge and a PITA but they werent 60. They were 36 wide 36 deep.

When I checked today 19 hrs after planting and watering it was still pretty damp around all of them so Im letting them dry a while.

How do those probes work?

Fairly moist 48 hrs after planting. Deeply watered. Any more big tree installers around?
