I need to change the oil in my gravely 152 XDZ and had some questions about oil, will any 10w-30 oil do the job, i cant find my owners manual about the motor its a kawi FX691V 24hp what does kawi reccomend for oil?

10w30. Any quality brand will be fine. Do the first filter and oil change at about 10 hours. Do an oil change at 100 and filter changes at 200. Just like the book says.

I would recommend doing the oil and filter every 50....synthetic as well. I run Amsoil 10w-30 in my Kaws or Mobil 1...oil is cheap compared to engines!

There is no documented evidence anywhere that proves that using synthetic oil and doing filter and oil changes at 4 times the recommended interval increases the lifespan of mower engines.
What is easily documented is that doing filter and oil changes at 4 times the recommended intervals increases your maintenance costs by about 485%.
In 200 hours...
8 quarts of Amsoil@$8.00 per is $64.00
4 Purolator filters @7.00 per is $28.00
Total in 200 hours....$92.00
4 quarts of 10w30@$3.00 per is $12.00
1 Purolator filter is $7.00
Total is 200 hours....$19.00

I have a Gravely 148XDZ and just did my first oil change not too long ago. I used Castrol 10W30 and will be changing to Mobil 1 synthetic at the next oil change. By the way, how do you like your mower?

While I agree that synthetic prob doesn't do anything more than conventional, changing the oil more regularly will do nothing but help the motor. These are not car motors we are talking about. My mower needs 1.8 qts. if I change the filter and 1.6 I believe if I just do the oil. I mean cmon', we aren't talking a ton of money. I do my oil every 50 and the filter every 100. You can usually find good deals on oil anyhow. Costco runs a special on M1 for $9 off a case of 6 I believe. That's at least 3 oil changes right there.

No, changing the oil more than it needs to doesn't do anything for the engine in and of itself,
matter of fact you actually risk damaging it due to some human error.
Change it when it needs to be changed, no more, no less.
