I got a job i'm bidding on that invovles removing the dwarf cedar trees stumps and all. there about 4' to 5' tall maybe 4'' thick at the base. was wondering if anyone has an idea of how deep the roots go on these kind of trees and is it worth me trying to hand dig them out, or should I just rent a mini excavator to dig them up????

Its not very professional and you have to be careful but if you can get a truck close and keep it on pavement hook up a strap and pull them out.

I would cut them off at about ground level and then touch them with a stump grinder. Even if you don't know of someone who has one, you could rent one cheaper than a mini ex.

Sounds pretty easy. For stuff like that a lot of times I will cut all the limbs off and leave 4 feet or so of the trunk, move out a little ways and use a sacrificial axe to chop the roots all the way around and then just grab the trunk and pry them out. Once you get them to move at all you can see where they are holding and get them out.
